Cosmos Rockin' Lyrics

Cosmos Rockin'
  • This is a powerful, old-fashioned rocker written by Queen drummer Roger Taylor. It follows the traditional chord progression format of 1950s and '60s Rock 'n' Roll songs.
  • Due to it's simple, high-energy sound, the song became a live favorite on the Cosmos Rocks tour, where it was used to start the encore. This can be seen in the Live in Ukraine DVD and other live recordings from around this time.

I Think We're Alone Now Lyrics

Children behave, that's what they say when we're together
    And watch how you play
    They don't understand
    And so we're

Running just as fast as we can, holding on to one another hands
Trying to get away into the night and then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground and then you say

    I Think We're Alone Now,
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
    I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

Look at the way we gotta hide what we're doin'
    'Cause what would they say
    If they ever knew
    And so we're

Running just as fast as we can, holding on to one another hands
Trying to get away into the night and then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground and then you say

    I think we're alone now,
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
    I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

    I think we're alone now,
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
    I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

Running just as fast as we can, holding on to one another hands
Trying to get away into the night and then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground and then you say

    I think we're alone now,
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
    I think we're alone now,
The beating of our hearts is the only sound

    I think we're alone now,
There doesn't seem to be anyone around

    I Think We're Alone Now
  • This was originally recorded by Tommy James & the Shondells in 1967. It was written by Ritchie Cordell, a producer at Roulette Records who wrote many of their hits. Their version hit #4 in the US.
  • Tiffany (last name: Darwisch) was just 15 years old when this song was released in the summer of 1987. She was 16 when the album went to #1 in January 1988, making her the youngest female singer to top the US albums chart, and also the first singer born in the '70s to hit the top spot.
  • Tiffany was just 13 years old when she started recording with producer George Tobin, who met her a year earlier and was impressed with her talent. Tobin, who owned his own studio in Los Angeles, had produced Kim Carnes ("More Love") and Smokey Robinson ("Being With You"). He couldn't find an appropriate manager for Tiffany, so he handled the business side of her affairs after signing her to a production deal.

Finding good, original songs is hard for an unknown singer, since the top songwriters want to place their cuts with established acts. So Tobin looked for cover songs for Tiffany, and came up with "I Think We're Alone Now," which she wasn't thrilled with but recorded anyway. Tobin then shopped her to record companies, and after being turned down by Clive Davis and about a dozen others, found a taker in Steve Moir at MCA Records. Unfortunately, Moir left MCA soon after, and the company gave Tiffany little support. It became clear that she wasn't going to succeed through traditional means, so Tobin went to the MCA "special projects" division and hatched an idea: the mall tour.

Starting in Paramus, New Jersey, the then 16-year-old Tiffany toured shopping malls, singing for free to whoever would listen. It was a novel approach, and it worked very well, especially when media outlets covered the story of this teenager who sang for shoppers. The mall crowd (young girls) was a great fit for Tiffany, who a way to reach this audience long before there was Twitter.
  • The song that replaced this at #1 in the US was Billy Idol's version of "Mony Mony," which was also a cover of a Tommy James & the Shondells song.
  • This was used in the movie Jawbreaker, starring Rose McGowan. (thanks, Katie - Goulburn, Australia)
  • Tiffany recalled to Billboard magazine in a 2011 interview: "When I heard that my hit song had went #1, I was washing dishes. I was doing my chores because I was a teenager, of course. My manager called me and said 'Congratulations, you have the number one single in the country.' I said, 'You know what? I have to get off the phone because I have to finish my chores otherwise I'm going to be busted and I won't be able to do anything.' And, he's like, 'You don't get it'... but I had to finish those chores."

    Jazz (Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold)
  • This Gorilla cut found the Bonzos savagely parodying their early "trad" jazz roots. Founder member Neil Innes recalled the story of the song to Uncut magazine: "It was decided to do this as a dada track, one take, and whatever happened that was it. Viv (Stanshall) picked up the trumpet, which he'd never played before. Rodney (Slater) took up the trombone, which he'd never played before. Roger (Ruskin Spear) moved over to clarinet. And we steamed into this 32 bar sequence, as you hear it on the record. It makes me laugh every time I hear it."

    Crush Lyrics

    Crazy how it feels tonight
Crazy how you make it all alright love
You Crush me with the things you do
I do for you anything too
    Sitting, smoking, feeling high
In this moment it feels so right

    Lovely lady
    I am at your feet
God I want you so badly
    I wonder this
    Could tomorrow be
So wondrous as you there sleeping
Let's go drive 'til morning comes

    Watch the sunrise
    To fill our souls up
Drink some wine 'til we get drunk
    It's crazy I'm thinking
Just knowing that the world is round

Here I'm dancing on the ground
Am I right side up or upside down
Is this real or am I dreaming

    Lovely lady
    Let me drink you please
    I won't spill a drop, I promise you
Lying under this spell you cast on me

    Each moment
    The more I love you
    Crush me
    Come on
    It's crazy I'm thinking

Just knowing that the world is round
Here I'm dancing on the ground
Am I right side up or upside down
Is it real or am I dreaming
Lovely lady I will treat you sweetly

    Adore you
    I mean
    You crush me
    It's times like these
    When my faith I feel
    And I know
    How I love you
    Come on
    Lady

    It's crazy I'm thinking
Just as long as you're around
And here I'll be dancing on the ground
Am I right side up or upside down
To each other we'll be facing
By love we'll beat back the pain

    We've found
    You know
I mean to tell you all the things I've been thinking deep inside
    My friend
With each moment the more I love you
    Crush me
    Come on
    Lady

So much you have given love
That I would give you back
    Again and again
    Meaning I'll hold you
    And please
    Let me always

    Crush
  • A song about spending all the hours of the night with a woman, never wanting it to end, and the feelings that come when you fall in love. Feeling like dancing, feeling like telling her everything that's on your mind, feeling like you don't know if your right side up or upside down, feeling like driving till morning comes. It doesn't have to be a woman, it can be about love for anyone. (thanks, Channing - Minneapolis, MN)
  • This was edited down to about 4 minutes for airplay - it's over 8 minutes on the album. (thanks, Adrian - Wilmington, DE)

    Sing Lyrics

    It’s late in the evening
    Glass on the side now
    I’ve been sat with you
    For most of the night
    Ignoring everybody here
    We wish they would disappear
So maybe we could get down now
    I don’t wanna know
If you’re getting ahead of the program
I want you to be mine, lady
    To hold your body close
Take another step into the no-man’s land
    For the longest time lady

    I need you darling
    Come on set the tone
    If you feel you’re falling
Won’t you let me know, oh
    Oh ooh
If you love me come on get involved
Feel it rushing through you from your head to toe, oh
    Oh ooh

    Sing, oh oh
    Oh oh
    Louder, oh oh
    Sing, oh oh

    This love is a blaze
I saw flames from the side of the stage
And the fire brigade comes in a couple of days
Until then we got nothing to say and nothing to know
But something to drink and maybe something to smoke
Let it go until I wrote a change singing we found love in a local raid, no
I don’t really know what I’m supposed to say
But I can just figure it out and hope and pray
I told them my name and said it’s nice to meet ya
Then she handed me of a bottle of water filled with tequila
    I already know she’s a keeper
Just from this one small act of kindness, I’m in deep
If anybody finds out I’m meant to drive home
But I’m drunk and gonna live it now no?
We just sit on the couch one thing led to another now she’s kissing my mouth

    I need you darling
    Come on set the tone
    If you feel you’re falling
Won’t you let me know, oh
    Oh
If you love me come on get involved
Feel it rushing through you from your head to toe, oh
    Oh

    Sing, oh oh
    Oh oh
    Louder, oh oh
    Sing, oh oh

    Can you feel it?
All the guys in here don’t really wanna dance
    Can you feel it?
All that I can hear is music from the back
    Can you feel it?
Found you hiding here so hoped you'd take my hand, darling
Before the beats kicks in again
    Can you feel it, oh
Can you feel it, oh no no no?

    (Sing) I need you darling
    Come on set the tone
    If you feel you’re falling
Won’t you let me know (louder), oh
    Oh
(Sing) If you love me come on get involved

    Sing
  • The first single from Ed Sheeran's x album, this was premiered on Zane Lowe's show on BBC Radio 1 on April 7, 2014. "The reason I chose this song to be the first single is, I think if I put out an acoustic ballad first, everyone would be like 'ehh, it's alright,'" Sheeran told Lowe. "But with this, you get people who are either going to love it or going to hate it, but at least they're going to be talking about it."
  • This features Pharrell Williams, who also co-produced the song with Sheeran. It was the first time the English singer-songwriter had worked with a pre-existing track. However, it almost didn't happen. Williams recalled to Billboard magazine that when he played Sheeran a demo, "He was like, 'Nah, I love it, but it's not for me.' And I said, 'Just give me a shot. Pick up your guitar and strum along with it for a little bit, and see what happens.'"

"So after figuring out the chords that I had laid down," he continued, "in between jokes and people coming in with coffee, he kept playing it, and he looked up at me, like, 'S--t, is this really happening?' as I'm looking at him with an 'I told you so' smile."
  • The song owes a lot to Justin Timberlake. "It was pretty close to a direct inspiration," Sheeran told Billboard. "I love Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds, so I took inspiration from those."
  • The unconventional x album title is actually pronounced 'multiply.'
  • The song charts the beginning of a tequila-laced liason with a girl that Sheeran met in Las Vegas in the summer of 2013. The experience eventually proved to be traumatic. He explained to Q magazine. "A totally f--ked up situation, which definitely left me tainted."
  • Commenting on his rapping and falsetto singing on the track, Sheeran told Ryan Seacrest: "I feel like I was veering off in one direction with that song. [It was] a very R&B led song and I wanted to pull it back and make it English so that's why I put the rap in it."
  • The song's music video was shot on location in LA and directed by Emil Nava, who worked on several clips from Sheeran's + album, including "You Need Me," "Lego House" and "Give Me Love."

The clip finds a Muppet look-a-like of Ed engaging in a debauched night out. The puppet stumbles into the human Ed and Pharrell Williams at the shoot for "Sing," and kidnaps the duo. Sheeran explained to MTV News: "The concept is The Muppets going out on a night out with a bunch of Korean business men who sing karaoke and then kidnapping me and Pharrell and taking us to that karaoke bar. Oh, and there's also a bunch of strippers in it. It's really weird, really weird, I don't know what I was on."

Speaking during an interview with Mix 104.1/Boston Sheeran revealed the puppet originally got into even more R-rated situations. "Unless you're into heavy, heavy drugs and strippers, you don't want to hang out with him," he said of his muppet double. "We cut that out of the video."

"The director went off on one [cut] and the original video is just [the puppet] in a strip club doing coke off strippers," Sheeran continued. And we're looking at the director being like, 'You know this is meant for TV, right?' You don't really want to hang out with him."
  • Sheeran told Live From MTV that a night of debauchery with PSY was the inspiration for the clip. "Basically the "Sing" video is based on a night out I had with him, and loads of his Korean mates," he said. "I went out on this night out with Psy and everyone was wearing a Psy mask in a Korean restaurant and they were all Korean and all wearing a Psy mask and I didn't know which one was Psy, I had no clue."

"I eventually found out who Psy was and he's just a monster when it comes to…," Sheeran added. "There's this Korean drink called Soju and so anyway I had this night out and that's what inspired the 'Sing' video with all the dancing and karaoke and stuff."
  • This was Sheeran's first ever UK #1 single as a performer. (He penned One Direction's 2012 chart-topper "Little Things").
  • "Don't" was set to be the the lead single from Sheeran's x album until Pharrell Williams requested that "Sing" should the first song released from the project, Sheeran quipped during the MTV documentary series Nine Days and Nights, "I swear Pharrell's got a foresight! … That hat or something!"
  • Sheeran recalled the story of the song during a Spotify track-by-track: "'Sing' was from my first session with him, and when you work with Pharrell, he tends to push you: he wants you to do the best thing possible. So you don't necessarily go for the first thing he plays you."

"It must have been on the seventeenth thing that he played me, and I had just dismissed everything," he continued. "I just didn't really get it. I don't really get jazz chords and Pharrell's very jazzy! He played me the beat, and I instantly dismissed it, it's not for me. OK, fair enough, move on, but I had a guitar in my hand, and I started playing that riff and he just looked at me and said, 'Do you know what you're doing, man?' I was like, 'No!', and then he puts back on the song and I said, 'Oh, OK, but I still don't want to do it', but just said, 'Man, just try it, it's not going to kill you to try it!'' So he went off ' he has three different studios in his building and has three different sessions going on at any one time - and I wrote the top line. He came back in, we pieced it all together."

"I wrote probably seven different verses and three different choruses and then we just picked the best ones and stuck them together," Sheeran concluded.
  • The second week of the release of x coincided with the incorporation of audio streams into the singles chart. Enough fans chose to stream the individual tracks that the 12 songs from the standard edition of the record occupied positions 4, 17, 25, 38, 45, 46, 49, 57, 59, 60, 62 and 82 on the tally. This meant that Sheeran become the first ever artist to see every one of the tracks from an album reach the Top 100 single chart concurrently. A couple of bonus tracks from the deluxe edition of x also reached the Top 100 the same week, meaning Sheeran had 14 songs in total on the chart.
  • X was the fifth single-character title to top Billboard's album chart. The previous four were:

    1981 4 by Foreigner
    2000 1 by The Beatles
    2005 O by Omarion
    2011 4 by Beyoncé
  • X was the top selling album of 2014 in the UK with 1,689,124 copies, the largest total for a LP since Adele's 21 in 2011.

    Fall Back Down
  • Like many of the songs on Rancid's album Indestructible, "Fall Back Down" was partially inspired by lead singer Tim Armstrong's breakup with ex-wife Brody Dalle of The Distillers. The song touches on themes of resilience and brotherhood, which help us through the hard times.
  • The success of this track helped make Indestructible Rancid's most commercially successful record since 1995's …And Out Come The Wolves. The commercial success, combined with appearances by Pop stars Kelly Osbourne and Benji Madden from Good Charlotte in the video, led some Rancid fans to believe the band had finally "sold out."
  • In 2004, "Fall Back Down" appeared in two video games: Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and NASCAR Thunder 2004.
  • The Canadian Pop sensation Lights covered this song for her 2010 Acoustic EP.

    I Won
  • Originally titled "Trophy Wife," this track finds Future and Kanye West comparing their relationships with their respective lady loves (Ciara and Kim Kardishan) to the feeling of winning a trophy. "I know I haven't always done things the right way," Future told Billboard magazine. "I'm just trying to reflect on how to make myself better, how to become a better man, a better father, a better person, a better artist. I wanted to touch on subject matter that doesn't always get touched on."
  • Future told The Associated Press that he wanted Kanye West to guest on his Honest album, so he sent him over a few tracks. "He picked this 'I Won' track," the Atlanta producer-rapper said. "He did the verse in one day and sent it back. That's rare when you get a Kanye verse back in one day, so you know it's one of them records when he does the verse and sends it back in 24 hours. That's the icing on the cake with the album."
  • The beat was supplied by Metro Boomin, who also produced 2013's "Karate Chop" as well as Honest's title track. "We had a session with me, Future and [production duo] Rock City," Metro Boomin told MTV News of the song's origin. "I loaded [the beat] up, and it was a certain part that we liked more, so we really just took the beat in a new direction. I started making the beat over a little bit while they were recording the song."

"At the end of the night, we had a rough; we had a hook, the first verse, and some ad-libs," Metro continued. "Future told me to take it home and build a whole track out. So I went and built the track with the vocals, finished the beat, and placed everything and sent it back to him."

"I got a call one day that they had sent it to Kanye," he added. A day later Yeezy was on the record.
  • The song's black-and-white video was directed by frequent West collaborator Hype Williams, (he filmed the rapper's "Gold Digger" "Homecoming" and "All of the Lights" clips). The visual flits between shots of the rappers performing on a deserted beach and close-ups of bikini-clad women posing on the sand. "We made [them] look like the old Hype Williams' video girls," Future told MTV News. "You know when video girls were stars back then. Video vixens, you really got them from the Hype Williams videos."
  • Future released a controversial browser-based video game to go with the song. The game features the rappers throwing gold and jewelry at the bikini-clad women walking across the beach in their view, with the objective being to collect as many "trophy wives" as possible. Upon its release, the game drew a great deal of criticism for its sexism.

Future previously released the game Move That Dope in conjunction with his song of the same name with Pharrell.

  • In the Joe Walsh anthology book Look What I Did!, he writes: "I wrote this with Kenny Passarrelli but we didn't record it until a year later. This was from an old Barnstorm track. I couldn't find the master tapes of the song, so (producer) Bill Szymczyk took a 2 track mix of the original basic track, we cleaned it up and overdubbed over that. Kenny played the mariachi trumpets on it... in a drunken stupor." (thanks, John - Altus, OK)

    The Fountain Of Salmacis Lyrics

From a dense forest of tall dark pinewood, Mount Ida rises like an island.
    Within a hidden cave, nymphs had kept a child;
Hermaphroditus, son of gods, so afraid of their love.

As the dawn creeps up the sky
The hunter caught sight of a doe.
    In desire for conquest,
He found himself within a glade he'd not beheld before.

    Hermaphroditus:
    "Where are you, my father?
    Give wisdom to your son"
    Narrator:
Now lost, the boy was guided by the sun"
"Then he could go no farther

And as his strength began to fail
    He saw a shimmering lake.
A shadow in the dark green depths
    Disturbed the strange tranquility.

    Salmacis:
    "The waters are disturbed
    Some creature has been stirred"
    Narrator:
    "The waters are disturbed
Naiad queen Salmacis has been stirred"

As he rushed to quench his thirst,
A fountain spring appeared before him
And as his heated breath brushed through the cool mist,
A liquid voice called, "Son of gods, drink from my spring".

    The water tasted strangely sweet.
Behind him the voice called again.
He turned and saw her, in a cloak of mist alone
And as he gazed, her eyes were filled with the darkness of the lake.

    Salmacis:
    "We shall be one
We shall be joined as one"
    Narrator:
    "She wanted them as one
Yet he had no desire to be one"

    Hermaphroditus:
    "Away from me cold-blooded woman
    Your thirst is not mine"

    Salmacis:
"Nothing will cause us to part
    Hear me, O Gods"

Unearthly calm descended from the sky
And then their flesh and bones were strangely merged
Forever to be joined as one.

The creature crawled into the lake.
    A fading voice was heard:
"And I beg, yes I beg that all who touch this spring
    May share my fate"

    Salmacis:
    "We are the one
    We are the one"
    Narrator:
"The two are now made one
Demi-god and nymph are now made one"

Both had given everything they had.
A lover's dream had been fulfilled at last,
    Forever still beneath the lake.

    The Fountain Of Salmacis
  • Steve Hackett explained how this song came about: "We were rehearsing one night about six months after I joined. Tony (Banks) started playing something on his own, which he said was part of a previous number that they'd done. He incorporated the mellotron into the song and I started putting a harp-like effect on to it, which was a very subtle way of playing guitar, but it gave it spark. The whole thing developed into The Fountain Of Salmacis."'

"The guitar solo at the end was, I think, a breakthrough at the time," he continued. "Previously we'd had both chords that sounded very orchestral, which I loved; but suddenly there was a solo over the top of that."
  • The Mellotron Mark II played by Banks on this song had been purchased by the band from King Crimson.
  • Salmacis fountain is located near the ancient Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and it is now a tourist attraction located in present-day Bodrum, Turkey. Although excellent to drink, in classical times, it was thought to have the effect of making men effeminate and soft.

According to Ovid's Metamorphoses, a naiad nymph called Salmacis fell in love with Hermaphroditus, the son of Hermes and Aphrodite. When he bathed in her fountain, she embraced him and prayed to the gods to be united with him forever. The gods heard her prayer and merged their bodies together, transforming Hermaphroditus into an androgynous being. Hermaphroditus then cursed the Salmacis fountain, so that any man who drank or bathed in its water would also become androgynous.

    Rainbow Connection Lyrics

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
    Rainbows are visions
    But only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide

    So we've been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see
    Some day we'll find it
    The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me

    Who said that every wish
    Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
    Somebody thought of that
    And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far

    What's so amazing
    That keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see
    Someday we'll find it
    The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me

All of us under its spell, we know that it's probably magic

    Have you been half asleep?
    And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
    Is this the sweet sound
    That called the young sailors?
The voice might be one in the same

I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
    Someday we'll find it
    The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

La da da di da da dum da duh da da dum di da ohhh

    Rainbow Connection
  • This was written by songwriters Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher for The Muppet Movie, which came out in 1979. In the film, it is sung by Kermit The Frog as the Muppets set out to find adventure. In our interview with Williams, he said: "Rainbow Connection was the first number in The Muppet Movie. It's the one that establishes the lead character. We find Kermit sitting in the middle of the swamp. Kenny Ascher and I sat down to write these songs, and we thought... Kermit, he's like 'every frog.' He's the Jimmy Stewart of frogs. So how do we show that he's a thinking frog, and that he has an introspective soul, and all that good stuff? We looked at his environment, and his environment is water and air - and light. And it just seemed like it would be a place where he would see a rainbow. But we also wanted to show that he would be on this spiritual path, examining life, and the meaning of life.

It tells you that he's been exposed to culture: 'Why are there so many songs about rainbows?' Which means, obviously, he's heard a lot of songs. This is a frog that's been exposed to culture, whether it's movies, or records, or whatever. And I also like the fact that it starts out with the negative: 'Rainbows are only illusions, rainbows have nothing to hide.' So the song actually starts out as if he's going to pooh-pooh the whole idea, and then it turns: 'So we've been told, and some choose to believe it. I know they're wrong, wait and see.' And again, he doesn't have the answer: 'Someday we'll find it.'"
  • Paul Williams has acted in many TV shows and movies, and had a regular role on the soap opera The Bold And The Beautiful. He wrote several songs that were recorded by the Carpenters, as well as "Evergreen," which won an Oscar when it was used in the 1976 movie A Star Is Born. Says Williams: "The best part of being a songwriter - beyond being able to make a living at it - is what I call the 'heart payment' of a song. That's when somebody comes up after a concert and says, 'My mom was a single mom, and 'You And Me Against The World' was a really important song to us.' Or 'We got married to 'We've Only Just Begun'' or 'Evergreen.' Or 'I Won't Last A Day Without You' got me through some hard times.' That's heart payment for a songwriter."
  • Williams was a guest star on the first season of The Muppet Show, and Jim Henson asked him to write music for Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas, which they filmed in Canada where they had a Muppet workshop. Williams told us: "We tried a bunch of things that wound up in The Muppet Movie. You know, Kermit riding a bicycle. When they made The Muppet Movie in 1979, the Muppets were at the absolute peak of popularity. It was a really big deal. [Jim] asked me again if I would write the songs for it. I said yes, but I wanted to bring in Kenny Ascher, who I'd been working with, because his melodies are so classically beautiful. I brought Kenny in and we wrote the songs, and just had a ball. Jim Henson gave you more [creative] freedom than anybody I've ever worked with in my life. I said, 'You want to hear the songs as we're writing them?' He said, 'No. I'll hear them in the studio. I know I'm gonna love them.' You just don't get that kind of freedom on a project these days."
  • Sarah McLachlan sang a poignant version on the album For The Kids, proceeds of which are go to Canadian and American music education programs. Johnny Mathis, Phil Ramone and The Dixie Chicks recorded it, as did Williams in a duet with Willie Nelson. Says Williams, "Willie and I doing the duet of 'Rainbow Connection' is one of my favorite recordings ever in life. The two of us, like two old guys, just talking. It's very conversational. And to hear those lines come out of Willie... One of my favorite voices ever was the guy that did the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Ukelele Ike. 'A dream is a wish your heart makes.' Just this wonderful, sweet, sweet, sweet voice. It felt like mail from home. And Willie's voice is like that to me. There's such a warmth there, an authenticity, an intimacy. So to hear Willie Nelson singing those words was a real high for me."
  • Regarding the lyrics, "The sweet sound that calls the young sailors," Paul Williams explained in our interview: "I think that I've always had a fascination with the sea. It's a metaphor for the call to adventure, you know? That voice is something inside us that says you can do anything. There's a great mysterious world out there, let's go see it."
  • Jim Henson, who created The Muppets, was the voice of Kermit The Frog. He died of a sudden virus in 1990 at age 53.
  • The Carpenters recorded this in 1980, but decided not to release it. In 2001, Richard Carpenter included it on his album As Time Goes By. In the liner notes, he explained:
"As with 'Leave Yesterday Behind,' Karen's vocal on this track is a 'work lead'; the singers and orchestra were added in 1999. Fans, knowing of the track's existence, have been writing me for years, asking for it's release. I try to be accommodating."
  • This was used as the main theme for a Japanese TV show called Where Is Love?.
  • The Brothers Cazimero recorded a Hawaiian language version with the Honolulu Boys Choir in the 1980s. The final verse is in English as a final affirmation of the song's message. (thanks, Patrick - Wahiawa, HI, for above 2)
  • Justin Timberlake performed this on an episode of Saturday Night Live. In the skit, he sings it with a Kermit look-a-like puppet, who gets angry when Justin steps on him. Timberlake ends up attacking the puppeteer, who calls him a dirty name through the Kermit puppet. (thanks, Lauren - Coppell, TX)
  • Paul Williams performed this on a 2008 episode of the kids' TV show Yo Gabba Gabba!, where he ventured inside a rainbow, and found it quite trippy.

    Home Lyrics

    Wrapped up, so consumed by
    All this hurt
    If you ask me, don't
    Know where to start

    Anger, love, confusion
    Rolls the gold nowhere
    I know that somewhere better
'Cause you always take me there

Came to you with a broken faith
Gave me more than a hand to hold
Caught before I hit the ground
Tell me I'm safe, you've got me now

    Would you take the wheel
    If I lose control?
    If I'm lying here
    Will you take me Home?

    Could you take care
    Of a broken soul?
    Will you hold me now?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?

Hold the gun to my head
    Count one, two, three
And if it helps me walk away then it's
    What I need

    And every minute gets easier
The more you talk to me
    You rationalize my darkest thoughts
    Yeah you, set them free

Came to you with a broken faith
Gave me more than a hand to hold
Caught before I hit the ground
Tell me I'm safe, you've got me now

    Would you take the wheel
    If I lose control?
    If I'm lying here
    Will you take me home?

    Could you take care
    Of a broken soul?
Oh, will you hold me now?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?

You say space will make it better
And time will make it heal
    I won't be lost forever
    And soon I wouldn't feel
    Like I'm haunted, oh falling

You say space will make it better
And time will make it heal
    I won't be lost forever
    And soon I wouldn't feel
    Like I'm haunted, oh falling

You say space will make it better
And time will make it heal
    I won't be lost forever
    And soon I wouldn't feel
    Like I'm haunted, oh falling

    Would you take the wheel
    If I lose control?
    If I'm lying here

Oh, will you take me home?
Oh, will you take me home?

  • This soulful track was released as the first solo single from British singer-songwriter Jess Glynne, who is signed to Black Butter Records publishing. At the time of its release Glynne had already featured on two chart-topping UK singles having provided vocals for Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" and Route 94's "My Love."
  • Glynne admitted to MTV UK it was a little scary releasing her first solo single. She explained: "I've never put anything out and the first thing I wanted people to hear from me was really important, because I wanted to set the right tone, I wanted to set my attitude, I wanted to show where I'm from, what I like. I think 'Home' represents all those things, because I'm not a softie, but then I've got a lot of different sides to me and I think 'Home' is a very good reflection of that."
  • Glynne's lyrics are about putting the past behind, whilst the instrumentation was cooked up by grime producer Bless Beats. She said: "I love that it fits in with the dance sensibility that's so popular right now, but Bless's production takes it in such a different direction. It's a really subtle but strong sound."
  • This was the song where Glynne found her sound. "One of the best pieces of advice I got given when I was going to do music for myself was go away and write a hundred songs minimum," she told Digital Spy . "I was like, 'What the f--k?! Write a hundred songs? That's kind of crazy'. I got to a point when I wrote one song two years later, and I was like, 'OK, this where I want to go'. That song was called 'Home'."

The End Is The Beginning Is The End Lyrics

    Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
    For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
    With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are
    Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
    And in your darkest hour
    I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

    Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
    And now the kingdom comes
    Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
    Of recoil and grace

Is it bright where you are
    Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
    And in your darkest hour
    I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

    Time has stopped before us
    The sky cannot ignore us
    No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
    The echo bounces off me
    The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again

Is it bright where you are
    Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
    And in your darkest hour
    I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
    Strange
    Strange
