In this song, Mariah describes her relationship with Tommy Mottola, who was head of Sony Records, where she recorded. Carey was married to Mottola from 1993-1998. It's extremely emotional song, with very subdued vocals by Carey, who sings not only about her relationship with Mottola, but with his son and daughter as well.

We were joking about how I talk, so I started writing down things that my mother and grandparents have said – and we just strung it all together in a conversation in this song. English singer-songwriter Elyar Fox was first noticed on YouTube where he'd been uploading his cover versions of hit tunes and cultivating a fan base of "Foxers." As views on his YouTube channel reached over 10 million, Elyar attracted increasing interest from all of the UK's major labels, before eventually signing with Global Talent, in conjunction with RCA.

This song was released as the lead single from Elyar's debut album and was co-written by the singer himself. Call On Me

This was inspired by the song "Valerie," originally recorded in 1982 by Steve Winwood. The first version of Prydz' track sampled the original recording but upon being asked to give his stamp of approval to its release, Winwood reportedly offered to re-sing the vocals to fit the track better.

Winwood's contribution to this track made him the only person to sing lead vocals on a UK #1 single in both the 1960s ("Keep on Running" by the Spencer Davis Group) and the 2000s.

Eric Prydz began to make music at the age of 9 in Stockholm, Sweden. After developing a nasty habit of breaking and entering in order to "borrow" his school's keyboards, he soon landed himself in a Swedish reform school. Nevertheless, this setback merely strengthened his resolve and, buoyed by encouragement from influential friends in the music business, Prydz was soon producing tracks that found their way into the record boxes of some of the world's most high profile DJs. This was his first hit single in the UK.

The video shows semi-clothed women doing raunchy aerobics. It was in heavy rotation on the music channels in the UK.

This was #1 in the UK for 3 weeks before it was knocked off by Robbie Williams' "Radio." A week later, Williams was knocked off the top spot when this climbed back up to it.

Ballard released a live video of the song in which he prefaced the tune by labeling it "self-explanatory." He added with a laugh, "I've found myself in a little bit of trouble from time to time in my music career, in a honky tonk and being on the road, and the two things that have always put me there, in trouble, are women and whiskey, and that's what this song is about."

Ballard told Radio.com the song helped him find the sound he was looking for on his sophomore album. "The way we arranged it, sonically speaking, that sound is going to be identifiable with the record," he explained. "It's a fun song, 'Every time you kiss me, it's like sunshine and whiskey.' It's a summertime thing."

The song also worked as an album title as well. "I felt like it really wrapped its arms around all the songs," Ballard said. "If nothing else, maybe people in Walmart will look at it and go, 'Sunshine and whiskey?' and at least give it a second glance."

This was written by Jaren Johnston (Tim McGraw's "Southern Girl," Keith Urban's "You Gonna Fly") and Luke Laird (Carrie Underwood's "Undo It," Little Big Town's "Pontoon.") Johnston told Roughstock about the day the pair wrote this song at Laird's house. "After we hashed out the song that day, I kind of took the track home to work it up," he said. "It was kind of different from what we had first done. I just started rapping on it. I sent it to Luke, and I think his text said 'OMG, someone is going to cut that!' We were so excited."

"Luke and I write together all the time," added Johnston. "We always have a blast. We'll just find an 80s beat and just start rapping over it. It's hilarious."

Neil Reid was an 8-year-old Scottish singer when he was discovered singing at a Christmas party for old-age pensioners in 1968, and for the next few years he spent his school holidays singing at various clubs. He won the British TV talent show Opportunity Knocks 3 times and as result he was given a recording contract.

This was Reid's first single. He later became the youngest artist to top the US albums chart with Neil Reid. He was unable to follow up his success and little more was heard of him.

Written by session guitarist Bill Parkinson, this was a massive hit worldwide, and rightly so, being recorded in every language from French to Japanese. Parkinson wrote it about/for his own mother, who, he told this website, was always "a bit coy" about the song.

Jennifer Lopez wrote this paean to her roots with Chris Brown. It finds the Bronx-raised singer telling us that she hasn't changed since her days in Castle Hill - she's still real and remains the same Jenny from the block.

The song was produced by Cory Rooney, who has helmed several of Lopez's hit tunes including her aforementioned "Jenny From The Block" and "Play." He worked on this track in collaboration with Bronx producers Amadeus, YaBoy Chizzy and Ryan M Tedder.

The video was shot in Lopez's old neighborhood in the Bronx on December 28, 2013 and directed by Steven Gomillion and Dennis Leupold. "I had this idea like, oh, when I do the video for ["Same Girl"], if I ever do a video for this, I'm gonna go back to my old neighborhood in the Bronx," she explained on The Tonight Show. "I'm gonna go back to Castle Hill, I'm gonna get on the train from Manhattan, I'm just gonna film the whole thing. So we did!"

"We did it very guerrilla style," Lopez added. "You know it was just me and the camera and it turned out pretty cool."

Lopez invited locals to cameo in the clip. "They all started kind of gathering around and we're like, 'Do you wanna be in the video?'" she recalled. "They're like 'Yeah!' and I was like, 'OK c'mon, sing this!'"

This was one of several songs that Lopez worked on with Chris Brown for her A.K.A. album. Asked by Pop Crush how she thought his style affected the sound of those tracks, Lopez replied: "He knew he was writing for me, but at the same time it was very organic to what he does. But when you hear the songs, I don't think you would think, like, 'Oh, he wrote 'Same Girl.' He wrote 'Emotions.'' There's very different things that he did for me on the album."

This was written by Conway Twitty with his drummer Jack Nance between sets at the Flamingo Lounge, Hamilton.

Conway Twitty was US singer Harold Lloyd Jenkins. He changed his name in 1957 upon signing with Sun Records (although nothing was released) and the next year he switched to MGM with whom he recorded this. He changed his musical style to country in 1965 and scored 41 chart toppers on the Country charts before dying from cardiac arrest in 1993.

White Christmas

This 8-line song that paints a picture of holiday nostalgia was written by Irving Berlin for the 1942 movie Holiday Inn, where Bing Crosby sings it from the perspective of a New Yorker stranded in sunny California during Christmas. In the film, the song begins with this verse:

Crosby recorded a version of the song for release as a single with the Kim Darby Singers and the John Scott Trotter Orchestra on May 29, 1942 - a few months before the movie hit theaters. At the advice of Bing's record producer Jack Kapp, this original first verse was excised as it made no sense outside of the context of the film. Now starting with the familiar, "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas," the song became a huge hit, going to #1 on the Billboard chart (measuring sales) in October, and staying in the top spot for 11 weeks, taking it through the first two weeks of 1943.

Irving Berlin wrote another holiday song that Crosby also sang in the film: "Let's Start the New Year Right." This was released as the B-side of the "White Christmas" single.

The song enjoyed a sales resurgence every Christmas after it was first released in 1942. It appeared on various Billboard charts every year until 1963 when it finally dropped off the Hot 100.

A perennial seller for an entire generation, the song is by far the biggest-selling Christmas song of all time. It was the biggest-selling song of all time, going back and forth with Bill Haley's "Rock Around The Clock," until Elton John released his tribute to Princess Diana - "Candle In The Wind."

Bing re-recorded the song on March 19,1947, again with the John Scott Trotter Orchestra because the original masters had been worn out from all the pressings. It is this version that is most often heard today.

The original Drifters with Clyde McPhatter as their lead vocalist recorded their Doo-Wop version in November 1953. It hit #2 on the R&B charts in 1954, and made the Pop charts in 1955. The deep bass-tenor voice you hear on this version was Bill Pinkney, who was an early member of the group.

The Drifters version made the Hot 100 (the chart was introduced in 1958) twice alongside Crosby's version: in 1960 (Bing #26, Drifters #96) and in 1962 (Bing #38, Drifters, #88).

By 1954, this song was a holiday favorite, and that year Paramount Pictures released a movie called White Christmas to tie in with it. Crosby starred in the film along with Danny Kaye, and of course performed his famous song.

This won the Academy Award for Best Song of 1942.

Elvis Presley recorded this song in 1957 along with other holiday standards for his Elvis' Christmas Album. Most songwriters dream of having Elvis record their songs, but Irving Berlin spoke out against the King's cover, calling it a "profane parody of his cherished yuletide standard" and claiming that his staff was ordered to call radio stations and ask them not to play it. There's a chance that Berlin was simply drumming up publicity for his song, as there was nothing all that offensive about the Elvis version, and The Drifters had already done an R&B version.

Elvis doing Christmas songs did rub some people the wrong way, but much of the controversy was manufactured, helping Elvis' Christmas Album stay at #1 for an amazing five weeks in late 1957 and early 1958. The best publicity stunt may have been the one pulled off by the Portland, Oregon radio station KEX, which refused to play the song and sparked a debate among listeners as to the merits of Presley's Christmas output. Their disc jockey Al Priddy played the song on a Sunday, and was "fired" the next day, making national news - Priddy even played the phone call of his firing on the air before he left. The station continued to play up the incident, and brought Priddy back two weeks later, claiming that overwhelming listener support made them decide to bring him back.

This has the distinction of marking the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. As the North Vietnamese surrounded Saigon, an evacuation plan was put into effect to bring the remaining Americans to safety. Their cue to evacuate was when a radio announcement stating that the temperature in Saigon was "105 degrees and rising," and followed by the playing of Bing Crosby's "White Christmas." That was the signal for the mad dash to the US Embassy where helicopters were waiting.

Phil Spector put this as the first track on his 1963 Christmas album A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector, which was unfortunately released on November 22, 1963 - the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Spector had Darlene Love sing this one, and he used many of his favorite Los Angeles session musicians on the album, including a then unknown Cher. The sessions were notoriously difficult, with Cher explaining, "Philip was just insane about the Christmas album. We just never left the studio. I mean, you went home to take a shower, you came back. We didn't go home for six weeks, we just were there. I had just turned 17, and I'm thinking, How are all these old people doing this? I am dying, I can hardly drag myself outta bed. How are these old guys doing it?"

Lady Gaga recorded a jazzy version for her 2011 A Very Gaga Holiday EP. Her take includes an original verse in which she jokes, "O.K., I suppose it's not very white outside yet."

Many popular artists have recorded this song, but since 1963, only one has charted in the US: Michael Bolton. He make #73 with his 1992 rendition.

Andy Williams released this song on his very first Christmas album (there were eight total), The Andy Williams Christmas Album in 1963, which also debuted his own enduring holiday classic "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." His version of "White Christmas" also became the #1 selling Christmas single that year.

According to Mark Steyn's A Song for the Season, Berlin began writing this on January 8, 1942. The songwriter was in a hurry that Monday morning and shouted at his musical secretary, Helmy Kresa: "Grab your pen and take down this song. It's the best song I ever wrote. Hell, it's the best song anybody ever wrote."

Steyn notes that "White Christmas" owes much of its enduring popularity to World War II, specifically the attack on Pearl Harbor that led to US involvement, because the song adopted a significance beyond the reaches of Hollywood: "Had America entered the war in Europe in 1939, 'White Christmas' might have been just a hit-record from a so-so movie. Instead, 1942 was the American serviceman's first Christmas away, in the Pacific, under glorious sunny skies that only made home seem even more distant."

Christmas was a painful time for Irving Berlin and his second wife, Ellin Mackay, who found their infant son dead in his bassinet early Christmas morning in 1928. Although he was Jewish, Irving grew up celebrating the holiday by sneaking off to his neighbor's house to enjoy the festivities. His daughter, Mary Ellin, told Mark Steyn: "My father believed in the secular American Christmas. There's a lot of controversy about that, about whether there should be, apart from the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, a general festive celebration that anyone can join in with."

Lindsey Stirling rose to prominence following a breakout appearance on Season 5 of America's Got Talent. She was voted off in the quarterfinals after Piers Morgan told her the world had no place for a dancing Dub-Step violinist. However she proved him wrong, firstly by attracting a lot of fans with her choreographed violin performances on her YouTube channel, then when her eponymous debut album reached #23 on the Billboard 200. The album also charted within the Top 5 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

This song was produced by longtime producer/collaborator of the Black Eyed Peas, DJ Poet, and released as the lead single from the Lindsey Stirling album. USA Today described the tune as "Mozart meets Skrillex."

Speaking with Artist Direct , Stirling explained the background to the song: "It has a pretty deep meaning," she said. "Basically, it's about creating inner beauty in yourself first. It all comes back to research being done by a scientist who studied the crystallization of water."

"Basically, he'd test out water and look at it at a magnified level as it crystallized in different environments," Stirling continued. "If it was in positive environments where good things were being spoken to it, the crystals came out beautiful. Whereas if negative things were said to these little vials of water, these crystals where these jagged shapes that were meaningless."

"When we surround ourselves eternally with positivity and we create healthy and positive environments and we do good things for people and ourselves, we're made up of 70 percent water so the crystals in your body create actual literal inner beauty," Stirling added. "That's what "Crystallize" is about. It's about taking control of your environment, creating beauty within yourself, and therefore creating beauty outside. I know that's pretty deep, but that's what it's about."

The music video was filmed in the ice castles of Silverthorne Colorado and was co-directed by Stirling with Devin Graham. One of the most viewed clips of 2012, it was #8 on YouTube's list of Top 10 Trending Videos for that year.
