I Wanna Sex You Up Lyrics

Come inside take off your coat I'll make you feel at home
Now let's pour a glass of wine cause now we're all alone
I've been waiting for you girl just let me hold you close to me
Cause I've been dying for you girl to make love to me

Girl you make me feel real good
We can do it til we both wake up
Girl you know I'm hooked on you
And this is what I'll do

I wanna sex you
All night
You make me feel good
I wanna rub you down
I Wanna Sex You Up

Let me take off all your clothes
Disconnect the phone so nobody knows
Let me light a candle
So we can make it better
Makin' love until we drown

Girl you know it feels real good
We can do it til we both wake up
Girl you know I'm hooked on you
And this is what I'll do

I wanna sex you up
Makin' love until we drown
I wanna sex you up

All I wanna do is
I wanna sex you up
All night
Girl you make me feel good
I wanna rub you down
I wanna sex you up

Make sweet lovin' all night long
I wanna sex you up
Feels so right it can't be wrong
Don't be shy girl rescue me
I wanna sex you up
Open up your heart and I'll set you free

I Wanna Sex You Up Song Chart
  • This song's bass line is sampled from Betty Wright's "Tonight is the Night," which chronicles a young woman's very first "intimate encounter" with a man. In that song, which was recorded during a live performance, Ms. Wright is heard telling her audience the story of how she came to write the song, and how her mother did not exactly approve of her performing it in public. According to Ms. Wright, her mother, properly mortified by the song's subject matter, righteously exclaimed, "I KNOW you're not gonna sing THAT song!" That line ("I KNOW you're not gonna sing THAT song.") can be heard throughout "I Wanna Sex You Up." (thanks, Robin - Birmingham, AL)
  • This was the debut single for both the group and the record label, Giant Records. It was a huge hit, but it did offend the sensibilities of some listeners. At a few radio stations, they referred to the song as "I Wanna Love You Up."
  • This was written for the 1991 movie New Jack City starring Wesley Snipes and Ice-T. When they were looking for songs for the film, the producers wanted the modern R&B sound - "New Jack Swing" - that artists like Bobby Brown and Jodi Watley were using. To get it, they contacted the producer/songwriter Elliott Straite, who had written the Bell Biv Devoe hit "Poison."

They showed him the film and let him pick a scene to soundtrack; he chose one where the character Uniqua (Tracy Camilla Johns) does a striptease for Nino, the kingpin played by Snipes. He wrote this sexy song specifically for the scene.
  • Bryan Abrams, Kevin Thornton, Mark Calderon, and Sam Watters formed the group (originally called Take One) at Northwestern High School in Oklahoma City. They made their debut at a high school talent show singing a jingle from a jeans commercial. When they were starting out, the group was known for its impromptu auditions, having sung without notice to Ronnie Milsap, Huey Lewis, Sheila E, The O'Jays, Jon Bon Jovi, Kool & the Gang, and Tony! Toni! Tone!
  • Color Me Badd's next two singles went to #1 in the US - "I Adore Mi Amor" and "All 4 Love."
  • This was used on Color Me Badd's first album, and also on the New Jack City soundtrack. The version on the soundtrack is rougher and a little more raunchy, with a spoken interlude where one of the guys tells a girl to "just lay back and enjoy the ride."

    Rollin' And Tumblin' Lyrics

    I don't think I'm goin' out anymore
You better find some other body to comfort.
When I was trembling baby you was a diamond,
But you ain't a diamond no more.

So what you wanna say is my head is a hurricane
Well l-l-l-let me sleep on that, uh huh, alright.
You say I'm hopelessly devoted to misery
Well I don't wanna be so devoted no more, aw yeah

And all of my friends wanna get into heaven
And all I keep thinkin' is "I wish you were here"
I heard that they been callin' me "The Great Depression"
Rollin' And Tumblin', breakin' my own heart again

Shimmy shimmy shake baby right in my blood stream
I don't know what it was that got in my room.
My ticker-tape heart broke and everything shook in here
But I learned it could be worse.

So what you wanna say is my head is a weather-vane
Spinning with the wind chime, right.
Baby I was born on the fourth of July,
Exploding like a firework, aw yeah

And all of my friends wanna get into heaven
And all I keep thinkin' is "I wish you were here"
I heard that they been callin' me "The Great Depression"
    Rollin' and tumblin'

And all of my friends wanna get into heaven
And all I keep thinkin' is "I wish you were here"
I heard that they been callin' me "The Great Depression"
    Rollin' and tumblin'

So should I take everything, all your temporary medicines?
Should I take your reds, your blues, and your cocaine?
Should I take something to try on the weekend?
Should I take anything, or did you mean everything?
When I hit the wall, wrecked from it all
You put flowers down on the cold ground
    And cry me a river
    And assure me I'm crazy
    While you question the answers
And then you lean on my best friends
    Until you find better weather
    And you take a vacation
I hope you got all my letters
    Signed "The Great Depression"

  • Brian Fallon sings here: "You say I'm hopelessly devoted to misery. But I don't want to be devoted anymore." Radio.com asked him if he thought hope could be punk? The Gaslight anthem frontman replied: "I think so. If you look at some of the bands when I was growing up, take The Clash. 'Stay Free'? I think that's a very hopeful song."

"Early hardcore stuff, the melodic stuff that was coming out in our neck of the woods and Oregon, was actually really positive," Fallon continued. "'This is trouble, but it's not gonna hold me down.' Almost like a soul message, from the '60s. That real self-power thing. And for me, it also comes out of gospel music. I don't know if it's punk, but it's definitely where I'm coming from. And that line was like, 'I'm just sick of being miserable.' The Hell with this! Enough!"

  • This was the first chart single for Wilson, a native of Detroit. He had been in the group The Dominoes, but this was his first release as a solo artist.
  • The title comes from a Louis Jordan movie with an all-black cast called Reet, Petite, and Gone.
  • In 1986, this was re-released in the UK and rocketed to #1 after millions of Britons saw a Miller beer commercial featuring a plasticine-animated Jackie Wilson singing this song.
  • Van Morrison wrote and recorded a song called "Jackie Wilson Said," which was covered by Dexys Midnight Runners . The first line in that song is: "Well, Jackie Wilson said, it was Reet Petite..."
  • In British slang, "Reet" means "Righteous."
  • This song holds the record for taking the longest time to reach #1 in the UK. Released in 1957, it finally topped the charts in 1986. (thanks, Ray - Nuneaton, United Kingdom)

    Early Morning Rain Lyrics

    In the early mornin' rain
With a dollar in my hand
With an aching in my heart
And my pockets full of sand
I'm a long ways from home
And I missed my loved one so
    In the early mornin' rain
    With no place to go

    Out on runway number nine
Big seven o seven set to go
Well I'm stuck here on the grass
    Where the pavement never grows
    Where the liquor tasted good
And all the women all were fast
There, there she goes my friend
    She's rolling down at last

    Hear the mighty engines roar
See the silver wing on high
    She's away and westward bound
For above the clouds she'll fly
Where the mornin' rain don't fall
    And the sun always shines
She'll be flying over my home
    In about three hours time

This ol' airport's got me down
It's no damn good to me
And I'm stuck here on the ground
As cold and drunk as I can be
    Can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I best be on my way
    In the early mornin' rain
    Can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I best be on my way
    In the early mornin' rain

  • The first Gordon Lightfoot composition to become well known, this song was composed by the Canadian singer-songwriter in 1964. The tune describes a down-on-luck man far from home, observing the takeoff of a Boeing 707 plane. According to some sources, it was inspired by Lightfoot seeing off a friend at the Los Angeles airport.
  • One of Gordon Lightfoot's most covered songs, this was first featured on Judy Collins' Fifth Album, before its release by the Canadian singer-songwriter. Not much later it was recorded both by Ian & Sylvia as the title track of their 1965 album and by Peter, Paul & Mary for their See What Tomorrow Brings set. Other notable covers include ones by Bob Dylan on his 1970 Self Portrait LP, Elvis Presley, whose version can be heard on his 1972 Elvis Now disc and Paul Weller, whose interpretation reached #40 in the UK in 2005.

Peter, Paul & Mary's version reached #91 on the US pop charts, the only time the song has reached the Hot 100.
  • Elvis Presley also performed the song during the USA airing of his 1973 Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite TV show. Lightfoot recalled during a 2014 Reddit AMA that it was the favorite cover of any of tunes. "I got a lot of attention on that song," he recalled. "I tried to meet him once, but Elvis had left the building. I never got to meet him, I never did, I almost got to meet him but I never got to meet the guy."
  • Gordon Lightfoot told Mojo magazine regarding Bob Dylan's cover: "I was totally blown away that he would record one of my songs in the first place. It helped my career - I'd not had a hit single myself at that point. His cover was a linchpin in that whole process because it made people in the industry aware that I was producing good songs."

    Ooo c'mon everybody

And the house'll be a-shakin' from the bare feet a-slappin' on the floor
When you hear that music you can't sit still
If your brother won't rock you then your sister will
    Ooo c'mon everybody

Well we'll really have a party but we gotta put a guard outside
If the folks come home I'm afraid they're gonna have my hide
They'll be no more movies for a week or two

    Neglected Space Lyrics

    Hello
I watch you come and go
I know you can hear my voice
    Don't walk away
    Come daydream with me
In closed loops and future-proof cardboard to caviar
Let's show them how good we are
If you look after me, I'll look after you

Sonar, night vision or desperate lovers
    Seeking privacy for their forbidden
    I am their defenseless host
Through my open wounds they let themselves in
Sheltered (sheltered), they mock me (they mock me)

If you stand up for me, I'll stand up for you

I'm weather-beaten in a losing battle punctured by nature, becoming organic
The air in here ages me, ungracefully!
But if you take care of me, I will take care of you

    Oh, my crumbling heart!
If you'll be good to me,
    I'll be good to you

    I'm amidst
I could be the best decision you ever made, a beacon, your peaceful corner
Find me, cherish me, take me on or pull me down
    You choose (Wait!)

Oh, safe in the ache of soul-decay!
    'Cause I will remember you
    Will you (Remember me?)

Bespoke to broken, this interwoven tapestry of tragedy,
    Crooked frames and cracked glazing
Slithers of wistful window gazes glint in borrowed light

Where doorways with no door stage a ballet of leaves,
Who pirouette in the footsteps of once glorious days

By peeling paint, I'm a sunken ceiling,
I'm cracking up, and can seem threatening

    I'm falling apart

    I'm scary at night
    Take dark, forbidden
    Keep out, keep out!
    No, no, no go forth

A has-been, a once was, the leftovers, an eyesore, bleeding, oxidising,
A few remaining, unloved, emotionally damaged, a waste of space,
A nuisance, I haven't had time to become, unwanted!
    What's gone? I'm losing it
This is not what I stand for
This is not what I stand for
This is not what I stand for

It was a perfectly good grand piano

Stop in the name of love!
I've got just what you're looking for!
    I've got tree-lined interiors,
Where we can dine with the biosphere

If you'll take care of me, I'll take care of you
If you be good to me, then I'll be good to you

I'm a story in mourning, and you're the author
    So pour out your masterpiece

Entropy increasing, how long before I'm dust?

    Can we discuss?

  • In Norse mythology Valhalla is a giant hall, where the souls of warriors slain in battle are taken by the Valkyries. A form of heaven where they are ruled over by the god Odin, the fallen combatants spend their days fighting safe in the knowledge of never being permanently harmed.
  • Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford told the story of this song to Classic Rock Revisited : "I've written about a lot of things in my life as a lyricist and I'm always trying to go one step further and into different places.," he said. "There is a series on American TV called The Vikings. I love that. I loved going to Scandinavia and I love to check out the culture and the history of that place and the other places I visit. The Norse mythology of Scandinavia and Denmark and Sweden and some of England...I think about these things and then about four o'clock in the morning I wake up wondering what I can write about to go with this great music."

"Out of the blue came this word, 'Valhalla,'" Halford continued. "I categorized that as a bullet word, and I realized that was my focus. I write and I write and I write. I always overwrite my lyrics. Who knew that the Metal God would be singing about being on the North Sea and heading to Denmark or Sweden searching for Valhalla? That's the great adventure that we have in Priest."
  • Other songs that reference the giant hall of Valhalla include Manowar's "Swords In The Wind," Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song (the lyric "Valhalla I am coming") and for those of a more classical bent, Richard Wagner's "The Ride Of The Valkyries."

    Joey Lyrics

Joey, baby - don't get crazy
    Detours, fences...I get defensive

I know you've heard it all before
So I don't say it anymore
I just stand by and let you
    Fight your secret war
And though I used to wonder why
I used to cry till I was dry
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside
Oh, Joey, if you're hurting so am I

Joey, honey - I got some money
    All is forgiven. Listen, listen

But if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you
Well I guess you scared me too
But we got lucky once before
And I don't want to close the door
And if you're somewhere out there
    Passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore

And if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you
Well I guess you scared me too
But if it's love you're looking for
Then I can give a little more
And if you're somewhere drunk and
    Passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore

  • This song is about being in love with an alcoholic. Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote it about Marc Moreland of the band Wall Of Voodoo - the bands played many of the same Los Angeles venues in the '80s. Moreland died of liver failure in 2002; Napolitano discussed Moreland and writing the song about him in a concert known as the "D.C. Sessions." (thanks, Michael - Cleveland, OH)
  • The lyrics to this song didn't come easy, as they were very personal and intense. In our interview with Johnette Napolitano , she told the story: "We did a demo with no lyrics. It was just like scratchy vocals, just me making sounds, basically, where I knew the melody would go. And right away everybody reacted to it. There weren't any lyrics, but there was something about the music that everybody really reacted to. And so we went to England to record the record with Chris Tsangarides, our producer. I knew what I wanted to say, but I wasn't looking forward to saying it. And so it was the last vocal that I recorded.

And I remember Chris every day, 'Do we have vocals to 'Joey' yet? Do we have words to 'Joey' yet?' And I'm like, 'Not yet.' So I literally wrote them in a cab. I knew what I was going to say, it's just a matter of like a cloud's forming and then it rains. The lines are forming in my head and they're all in my head, and I know the chorus, and I know what I'm going to say. It's just a matter of fine tuning the details and how I'm going to lug it out. And then it rains. The clouds all formed and it rained. And then it happened. And that was it. And it was just there."
  • This is by far the biggest hit for Concrete Blonde, and their only one to make the Hot 100 (they have placed several songs on the Modern Rock charts). Johnette Napolitano has expressed little interest in hit singles or album sales, which led to tensions with the group's label, I.R.S. Records, which signed them in 1986. After five albums with I.R.S., including the gold-certified Bloodletting, the label offered them a deal where the group was sold to Capitol Records.

The group still refused to serve the musical tastes of a wider audience, and they ended up on independent labels. These days, their artistic credibility is unquestioned, but at the time, they took some criticism for daring to have a hit song. Napolitano addressed this in a 1993 interview with Happening when she said: "People call that song a 'sell-out' only because it sold records. If I could intentionally write a Top 40 song, don't you think I would have done it on the first album?"
  • The video drove hope the alcoholic theme. It featured Napolitano with the band playing in a small club while one lone patron drinks to excess. It was the only Concrete Blonde song to receive significant airplay on MTV.
  • This was a #1 hit for 4 weeks on the US Modern Rock charts. It gained popularity as "alternative" music was coming into the mainstream and radio stations were looking for stuff like this to play. Finding female voices was particularly problematic for radio program directors in this era of Pearl Jam, so this song was a welcome addition to many playlists.

I have roamed so far away
I have found there's no turning back
I have seen so many things
I have been to hell and back

Still in the land of the living
Rocking the home of the brave
    Staying alive and still kicking
Ain't got no need to be saved

Out of the fire and into the black
    We've been through it all
We've been to hell and back

When I was young life was savage
The leather gets scuffed as it's worn
    Rolling along you get damaged
So you grab the bull by the horns

Out of the fire and into the black
    We've been through it all
We've been to hell and back
Taking it up higher when you're under attack

    We've been through it all
We've been to hell and back

We have roamed so far away
We have found there's no turning back
We have seen so many things

"We throw in that we are still alive and kicking and the home of the brave and all these references," Halford continued. "It's like the song 'Never Forget' is a testament to our beautiful fans that have loved and supported us over the years. There are lots of wonderful messages on Redeemer of Souls."

  • The lyrics refer to Tom Marshall, who has written many songs with guitarist Trey Anastasio. They talk about how Marshall's relationship with his girlfriend was not going as fast as she wanted it to go. It was a direct response to her wish to get married. (thanks, Jeff - Kendall Park, NJ)
  • Marshall has written many songs with Anastasio, including "Stash," "Bouncing Around the Room," and "Down With Disease." Some of his solo compositions performed by Phish include "Dirt" and "First Tube."
  • Appears on their 3-disc 2002 live release, Vol. 12 - 8/13/96 - Noblesville, IN. This is part of a series of live Phish concerts released on CD in their entirety.

    Madhouse Lyrics

    Devils don't lie
They just fuel the heart’s fire for more, more

    Devils don't pry
They just wait until you want a bit more, more

    I don't want lies
    I want open skies
    I want doors, doors

    But the pressure keeps prying
There's an open fire at the core, core

Oh hear the sound of the Madhouse that you’re making
Oh hear the sound of the madhouse that you’re making

    Chaos and disorder!
    I’m a mess then I’m a messiah
    (Don’t you leave me alone)
    In the chaos and disorder!
    I’m a mess then I’m a messiah
    (I’m terrorizing everything)

    The way we get by
    Is to lie, lie, lie
    A bit more, more

    Way we get high
    Is get high on pride
    A bit more, more

    You go deep inside
    No room for the light
    In these four walls

    Hunting for your dream
    Down the cocaine streets
    Give me more, more

Oh hear the sound of the madhouse that you’re making
Oh hear the sound of the madhouse that you’re making

    Chaos and disorder!
    I’m a mess then I’m a messiah
    (Don’t you leave me alone)
    In the chaos and disorder!
    I’m a mess then I’m a messiah
    (I’m terrorizing everything)

    Inside of my head
    It’s a madhouse that you’re making
Oh hear the sound of the madhouse that you’re making
    Breaking inside of me

We gotta find that light shining in the hard times
Gotta find that light shining in the dark times
Gotta find that light shining in the hard times
Gotta find that light shining in the dark times

Oh hear the sound of the madhouse
Oh hear the sound of the madhouse
    Breaking inside of me

Whats that clack clack? Gotta get outta here
Rather be caught dead than die in here!

  • This bass-driven track sounds like a long-lost Prince cut. "I can't help but be influenced by Prince," Kimbra told Radio.com . "But I think I was trying not to. I don't ever want to sound too much like an artist I love."

    My Love Lyrics

My Love is warmer than the warmest sunshine
    Softer than a sigh.
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean
    Wider than the sky.
My love is brighter than the brightest star
    That shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
That can ever change my love

Something happened to my heart the day that I met you
Something that I never felt before
You are always on my mind no matter what I do
And everyday it seems that I want you more

My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine
    Softer than a sigh.
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean
    Wider than the sky.
My love is brighter than the brightest star
    That shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
That can ever change my love
Once I thought that love was meant for anyone else but me
Once I thought you'd never come my way
Now it only goes to show how wrong we all can be
For now I have to tell you everyday

My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine
    Softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean
    Wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star
    That shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
That can ever change my love
My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine
    Softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean
    Wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest star
    That shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
That can ever change my love

    My Love Song Chart
  • This was Clark's second #1 hit in the US. She was the first British solo act to have two #1 singles in the States. Her first #1 was "Downtown," released the previous year.
  • Tony Hatch wrote this song as he flew from London to Los Angeles, where Clark recorded it. The air travel have him the idea for the idea of love transcending distance.
  • This was one of three songs Clark recorded at the session, and she hated it. She had to leave right after she was done with her vocals, but on the way out implored her American record label representative, Joe Smith, not to release "My Love." Smith, sensing a hit, put it out anyway, telling Petula, "Trust me, baby." He was right about he song being a hit, but this didn't appease Petula, who now had to perform it. When we asked her in 2013 why she didn't like the song, Petula explained: "I thought it was a bit ordinary. I had got so used to these wonderful songs that Tony [Hatch] had been writing with all these different moods and I thought it was just a bit flat. You know what, I still do. But I do sing it now. For a long time I wouldn't sing it on stage, but I sort of play around with it a little bit now and that makes it a bit easier for me to do it." (Here's our full Petula Clark interview .)
