Devil, Devil (Prelude: Princess of Darkness)

This track contains the second and third part of a haunting trilogy centered upon evil. It starts off with the preceding track, the tensely introspective "Dark Side" where Church talks about putting a bullet in anyone who messes with his family.

Part two is "Princess of Darkness," a speech about the evils of Nashville that Church partially recited straight into his iPhone in the Opry Mills mall parking. He did so not long after learning that Shel Silverstein's estate wouldn't give him the rights to the late author's Nashville-as-the devil poem The Devil and Billy Markham.

The final part, the menacing "Devil, Devil," finds Church taking on Nashville's streets of broken dreams before concluding, "The devil walks amongst us. And Nashville is his bride."

Church said that he and producer Jay Joyce set out to challenge themselves on The Outsiders. "We made a conscious effort when we started this album," he said. "We were at a point in our career where, I understand that we had two choices. I could have continued to do 'Drink In My Hand,' 'Springsteen,' 'Creepin' . . . I know how to do those things. I know how to continue the career that way. I think we made a conscious effort to challenge ourselves artistically, and do something that was artistic. That's what we did. That's what we chose on this album. We made it that way."

Church told Billboard magazine that no one should interpret this anti-music business rant as being his personal manifesto. "I really wrote that from the standpoint of — I've had my struggles — but I've seen a lot of people who had struggles," he explained. "I've always been so compelled by the difference between a person who come to this town and has his dreams come true and a person who's standing outside on Broadway playing for tips with a guitar case open and starving to death."

"The talent difference is pretty close," Church continued. "They can both do it. It just seems so cruel to me the randomness that one makes it and ten don't. The seedy nature of that is what has always appealed to me."

This Devil's Workday

This is about a total jerk who believes in nothing ("I am my own damn God!") and makes people's lives miserable. Mr. Brownstone

This song is about how heroin affected the band. Mr. Brownstone is likely to be their dealer. Brownstone isn't a common slang term for heroin, but it is brown, which is likely to be where the dealer got his name from. (thanks, Sterv - Donny, England)

Axl Rose's lyrics mention how the band would take heroin before performing at concerts. "The show usually starts around 7, we go on stage around 9" means they were two hours late for the show because of the drug. Later he sings: "Now I get up around whenever, I used to get up on time," meaning he doesn't care anymore about it, he's so obsessed with heroin.

At the end of the song in the lyrics: "Shoved it in the bindle and I shot it in the middle And it, it drove outta my mind I should've known better, said I wish I never met her, said I leave it all behind," A bindle is a "dimebag" full of heroin, he shot it in the middle, getting rid of it, and says he wished he never met her (her being heroin) and he just quit it cold turkey. Good Ol' Boys Like Us

Discovered in the spring of 2010 on YouTube by noted producer Jeremy Stover, JJ Lawhorn signed with Average Joes Entertainment in 2011 and released his debut album, Original Good Ol' Boy two years later. This is the second single to be released from the set. It was made available on iTunes on February 18, 2014.

This self-penned song stresses the value of never-ending friendships and was the result of a tragic event that hit close to home for the rural Virginian. "'Good Ol' Boys Like Us' is a true story inspired by the passing of a friend that devastated my hometown community a few years back," Lawhorn explained.

Four months after the release of the Original Good Ol' Boy album in July 2013, a good friend of Lawhorn's died in a motorcycle accident. "While it has always been special to me, the tune took on a new meaning after my best friend and former drummer died in a tragic motorcycle accident two months ago," Lawhorn said when announcing the song's single release. "There isn't another song that I've ever written that is closer to my heart. Its message is one of hope; a reminder that we are never alone even after our loved ones are gone."

Lawhorn was inspired to write the song after seeing how everybody came together to celebrate his friend's life after he'd passed away. "I wanted to write something that inspired people just to think about, hey, even though this person's gone, they're still with us," he told The Boot . "They're still watching over us. They're like guardian angels."

Lawhorn knew that the video for the song needed a special approach. "I just told [the record company], 'I'm gonna go shoot this video in my hometown, and I'm gonna go to the places that we used to go, and I'm gonna film things that we used to see and do.' Me and the producer talked for a long time about just trying to make everything as authentic as possible," he said.

"It's freaky to me to watch it, because I've actually got my best friend's little brother playing him as a kid, and his little buddy playing me as a kid," Lawhorn added. "Throughout the video, you see these kids running around shooting BB guns and whatever, just doing all these different things, carving stuff out of trees — things that we used to do, and it shows me remembering it all."

In A Lonely Place

This was written by the British group Joy Division, but they never recorded it. After Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis died in 1980, remaining members formed New Order and released this in 1981 on their album Ceremony.

This appears on the soundtrack for The Crow: City Of Angels.
