Shame Lyrics

What you heard is true
The disappointing truth
Is I don't like to lose
Shame on me, shame on me

Promises I made
And bills I never paid
Another missed birthday
Shame on me, shame on me

Bridges that I burned
And lovers that I hurt
Lessons never learned
Shame on me, shame on me

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

I repeat my words
Sometimes they seem rehearsed
And I speak out of turn
Shame on me, shame on me

Bridges that I burned
And lovers that I hurt
Lessons never learned
Shame on me, shame on me

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

That were hiding underneath our skin
And were scared of letting somebody in
Nobody showed us how to live
Or how to be perfect
Its not like its worth it

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

Hey, I'm not tryin to be perfect
Its not like its worth it
Everyone hurts the same
Hey, I'm not tryin to be special
'Cause I ain't no angel
Everyone hurts the same
What a shame

Shame
  • This Fuse cut was a collaborative effort between a number of top-ranking songwriters. They were:

Norwegian producers Stargate (Rihanna's "Diamonds," Katy Perry's "Firework")

American hitmaker Benny Blanco (Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," Kesha's "TiK ToK")

Pakistani-American songwriter Ammar Malik (Marron 5's "Moves Like Jagger," Gym Class Heroes "Stereo Hearts")

New York City producer RoboPop (Maroon 5's "Payphone")

Illinois songsmith Ross Golan (Justin Bieber's "Take You")

English songwriter Justin Parker (Rihanna's "Stay")
  • Urban told Suzanne Alexander on GAC's Daily Countdown that the song particularly spoke to him. "We're talking about the human condition, which is universal," he said. "I heard the song and I was just, 'I know that guy.' I've been that guy, you know. The chorus starts, 'I'm not trying to be perfect, I'm just trying to do the next right thing in my life.'"
  • Urban recalled that after recording his vocal for this song with Stargate in New York, he indicated that he would lay down some back-up harmonies, "But Tor Hermansen of Stargate, stopped me," the singer added, "and he said, 'No, not on this song—you sing one vocal, top to bottom, storytelling. Pure, honest, true, no other singers, just you.' And I went, 'Gosh, you're so right.' It was a very raw, naked vocal, and if ever there was a song that needed to be left alone, it was this one."
  • Urban commented during a Q&A at New York's Apple Store in Soho that it was the first time a banjo had been brought in on a Stargate session.

    Nightcall Lyrics

    I’m giving you a Nightcall
To tell you how I feel
I’m gonna drive you through the night
    Down the hills
    I’m gonna tell you something
    You don’t want to hear
I’m gonna show you where it’s dumped
    But have no fear

    There’s something inside you
    It's hard to explain
    There’s something inside you boy
    But you’re still the same

    I’m giving you a nightcall
To tell you how I feel
I’m gonna drive you through the night
    Down the hills
    I’m gonna tell you something
    You don’t want to hear
I’m gonna show you where it’s dumped
    But have no fear

    There’s something inside you
    It's hard to explain
You’re talking about you boy, but
    You’re still the same

    Eh, yeah yeah
    Tell you how
    Tell you how
    Tell you how, oh

    I’m giving you a nightcall
To tell you how I feel
I’m gonna drive you through the night
    Down the hills
    I’m gonna tell you something
    You don’t want to hear
    I’m giving you a nightcall
To tell you how I feel and how I feel

  • This song was originally recorded in 2010 by the French Electro-House artist Kavinsky, and was a Top 10 hit in his native country. London Grammar recorded a stripped-down cover for their debut album, If You Wait. Dan Rothman of the band told Digital Spy : "We sort of did it by accident. We were in the studio and thinking of doing a cover for our EP and our producer came out and was like, 'Let's do 'Nightcall'.' We love the song and knew it quite well."

His colleague Dot Major added: "It's completely live. Obviously the beat's been added at the end, but the piano, vocal and guitar was just one live take."

    America Lyrics

    Far
    We've been traveling far
    Without a home
    But not without a star
    Free
    Only want to be free
    We huddle close
    Hang on to a dream

On the boats and on the planes
    They're coming to America
    Never looking back again
    They're coming to America

Home, don't it seem so far away
    Oh, we're traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm

Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we'll say our grace
    Freedom's light burning warm
    Freedom's light burning warm

    Everywhere around the world
    They're coming to America
    Every time that flag's unfurled
    They're coming to America

Got a dream to take them there
    They're coming to America
Got a dream they've come to share
    They're coming to America

    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    They're coming to America
    Today, today, today, today, today

    My country 'tis of thee
    Today
    Sweet land of liberty
    Today
    Of thee I sing
    Today
    Of thee I sing
    Today

    America
  • This is a tribute to immigration in America, where people from all over the world were welcome to come and seek opportunity. Diamond grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where many Europeans arrived. His grandparents were immigrants: on his father's side they came from Poland, and on his mother's side from Russia.
  • Michael Dukakis used this as his theme song in his failed 1988 Presidential campaign to emphasize his own ethnic origins as a third-generation American.
  • Diamond wrote this for the 1980 movie The Jazz Singer, where he starred as a young Jewish man who must defy his father to follow his dreams of becoming a singer.
  • Will Ferrell used to impersonate Diamond on Saturday Night Live. In one bit where they did a fake Behind The Music, Ferrell (as Diamond) said this song was "fueled creatively by my massive hatred of immigrants."

    Trouble Lyrics

    I don't look for Trouble
    But trouble looks for me
And it's been waiting around corners
    Since I was seventeen
They say "Here comes a hurricane
    Trouble is her middle name!"
But I don't look for trouble
    Yeah trouble looks for me
    Hey hey!

I just want to live a quiet life
    I'll make an excellent wife
Man I swear I really try
But some boys they just can't eat it whole
Trouble is my name you know
(Trouble is my name you know)

    I don't look for trouble
    But trouble looks for me
And it's been waiting around corners
    Since I was seventeen
They say "Here comes a hurricane
    Trouble is her middle name!"
But I don't look for trouble
    Yeah trouble looks for me
    Hey hey!

    Hey!

    Hey!
    Hey hey!

    I don't look for trouble
    But trouble looks for me
And it's been waiting around corners
    Since I was seventeen
    They say that you
    Got so many sides
    I'm a Gemini
But I don't look for trouble
    Trouble looks for me

Lights up let's have a toke
Pour more whiskey in my Coke
Never been one of the herd
    Flipping everyone the bird
People say that I am heartless
I've just learned to use my heart less
I go hard 'cause I'm the hardest
And we ain't even started yet!

    Hey!
    Hey hey!
    Hey!
    Hey hey!
    Hey!

  • Neon Jungle are a British four-piece girl group consisting of Amira McCarthy, Asami Zdrenka, Jess Plummer, and Shereen Cutkelvin. This EDM pop tune is their debut single, which was released September 1, 2013.
  • The song was developed by Neon Jungle with English singer-songwriter Anita "Cocknbullkid" Blay. The intention was to showcase the band's fun and youthful side. "Everyone says it's really catchy, that you can't get it out of your head, so that's always a good thing," Neon Jungle told Fuse TV. It is a good introductory [song for us]: It's catchy, it gets in your head. It's two and a half minutes long so it doesn't drag out too much. It's just fun."

Following a number of low profile releases, Cocknbullkid signed to Moshi Moshi through Island Records in 2009. She released several much acclaimed records that failed to trouble the charts, but achieved her first hit production with this song.
  • Amira told Digital Spy how they came up with their Neon Jungle name. She explained: "We've got a song called 'Welcome To The Jungle' and we wanted something that could represent what we are. We're all individual and quite different, which is why we decided on Neon. We tried to put lots of different words with it, but they weren't working. Eventually we decided on Neon Jungle."

    Don't Tread On Me
  • This song is about emotional volatility when you feel like your freedom is being encroached upon.
  • The phrase "Don't Tread On Me" comes from the Gadsden Flag, which was popular in the 1700s when America was still a colony. The Flag featured the words under a rattlesnake, and was a defiant message of independence.

    Crazy Ain't Original these days
The world was going half-crazy anyway
Anything you can think of, it's all been done before
    Crazy ain't original no more

Checking in and out and in and out of rehab
It ain't quite the shame it used to be
Well you're just a bigger star 'cause one bad
Mug shot makes you much more interesting

    Crazy ain't original these days
The world was going half-crazy anyway
Anything you can think of, it's all been done before
    Crazy ain't original no more

Well those neighbors we all tried to stay away from
Twelve kids were not enough, they had thirteen
And what everybody used to call a freak show
Well now we call reality TV

    Crazy ain't original these days
The world was going half-crazy anyway
Anything you can think of, it's all been done before
    Crazy ain't original no more

Yea all these bankers down on Wall street riding Harleys
Weekend warriors breaking all the rules
All those grandmothers with their cosmetic surgeons
Do their best to look like they're still in high-school

    Crazy ain't original these days
The world was going half-crazy anyway
Anything you can think of, it's all been done before
    Crazy ain't original no more

    Crazy Ain't Original
  • Crow wrote this song with Al Anderson and Leslie Satcher after being inspired by Nashville legend Merle Haggard following the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony where he was honored in 2010. "After playing the Kennedy Center Honors, I came home and was thinking about what it must be like to be a songwriter from that generation," she told Billboard magazine, "and writing about what's happening around you. That was the inspiration for that."

    Have A Nice Day Lyrics

    San Francisco Bay
    Past pier thirty nine
    Early p.m.
    Can't remember what time
    Got the waiting cab
    Stopped at the red light
    Address, unsure of
But it turned out just right

    It started straight off
    "Coming here is hell"
    That's his first words
    We asked what he meant
He said " where ya' from ?"
    We told him our lot
    "When ya' take a holiday
Is this what you want ?"

    So Have A Nice Day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day

    Lie around all day
    Have a drink to chase
    "Yourself and tourists, yeah
    That's what I hate"
    He said "We're going wrong
    We've all become the same
    We dress the same ways
    Only our accents change"

    So have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day

    Swim in the ocean
    That be my dish
    I drive around all day
    And kill processed fish
    It's all money gum
    No artists anymore
    You're only in it now
    To make more, more, more

    So have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day

    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day
    Have a nice day

    Dog goes "woof"
    Cat goes "meow"
    Bird goes "tweet"
    And mouse goes "squeek"
    Cow goes "moo"
    Frog goes "croak"

    What does The Fox say?

    "Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
    Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!

    What the fox say?

    Tchoff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!
    Joff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!"
    What the fox say?

    Big blue eyes
    Pointy nose
    Chasing mice
    And digging holes
    Tiny paws
    Up the hill
    Suddenly you're standing still

    Your fur is red
    So beautiful
    Like an angel in disguise
    But if you meet
    A friendly horse
    Will you communicate by
    Mo-o-o-o-orse?
    Mo-o-o-o-orse?
    Mo-o-o-o-orse?
How will you speak to that
    Ho-o-o-o-orse?

    What does the fox say?

    "Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!

    Chacha-chacha-chacha-chow!"
    What the fox say?

    "Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow!
    Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow!
    Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow!"
    What the fox say?

    "A-hee-ahee ha-hee!

    A-hee-ahee ha-hee!"
    What the fox say?

    "A-oo-oo-oo-ooo!
    Woo-oo-oo-ooo!"
    What does the fox say?

    The secret of the fox
    Ancient mystery
    Somewhere deep in the woods
    I know you're hiding
    What is your sound?
    Will we ever know?
    Will always be a mystery
    What do you say?

    You're my guardian angel
    Hiding in the woods
    What is your sound?
    (Wa-wa-way-do, wub-wid-bid-dum-way-do, wa-wa-way-do)
    Will we ever know? (Bay-budabud-dum-bam)

    The Fox
  • Ylvis are a Norwegian comedy duo comprising the brothers Vegard and BÃ¥rd YlvisÃ¥ker. They recorded this EDM parody and its accompanying video to promote the season's première of their late-night TV talk show, I kveld med YLVIS (Tonight with Ylvis) on TV Norge. The visual quickly went viral after they uploaded it onto YouTube.
  • The song asks the question: What sound does a fox make? It was produced by Norwegian producers Stargate, the team behind Rihanna's "Diamonds" and Katy Perry's "Firework." BÃ¥rd described the writing process to Billboard magazine: "The way we work is we just sit around and talk about things and get ideas and take some notes," he said. "I guess we must have been talking about what sound a fox makes. And then we had a chance to work with Stargate, a production company in New York City...We actually did a favour for them and we asked them if they could produce a song for the new season in exchange."
  • This was the highest-charting song in the US by Norwegians on the Billboard Hot 100 since a-ha went to #1 with "Take On Me" in 1985.
  • Tor Erik Hermansen and his Stargate partner Mikkel Storleer Eriksen didn't compose the song's instrumentation specifically for Ylvis. Hermansen recalled to Spin: "We'd already been working on some beats and sent them a couple of options. They picked one or two that they liked. They came into the studio with the lyrics, and the fox sounds. We said, 'Are you sure this is what you want to do with it?' They said, 'Yep.' And we said okay and did it."
  • Stargate gave the backing track to Ylvis as a present after the Norwegian comedy team made a mockumentary video for them for Mikkel Storleer Eriksen's 40th birthday.
  • The clip was named as YouTube's Top Tending video of 2013. Runner-up was a military version of "Harlem Shake" whilst in third place was the slapstick visual, How Animals Eat Their Food, in which two men re-enact the eating habits of lizards and kangaroos.
  • A children's book based on the song titled What Does the Fox Say? was released in December 2013. The Simon & Schuster-published tome, which includes illustrations from Norwegian artist Svein Nyuhus, debuted at #1 on The New York Times Best Sellers List for Children's Books.

  • This song's lyrics came from Anthony Burgess' classic book A Clockwork Orange, which was also made into a popular movie. "Durango Number 95" is the car they drive to a weird shack with a sign saying "HOME" on it; "Horrorshow" is the book's teenage slang (known as Nadsat) for "good."
  • "Krovvy" is Nadsat for "Blood."
  • This song was WWE wrestler Edge's theme for quite some time. It was also featured on WWE Smackdown Here Comes The Pain for the PS2.

    One For The Road Lyrics

One For The Road, ooh ooh
One for the road, ooh ooh

From the bottom of your heart
    The relegation zone
I saw this coming from the start
    The shake, rattle and roll
    The cracks in blackout blinds
Cast patterns on the ceiling but you're feeling fine
I thought it was dark outside
I thought it was dark outside

So we all go back to yours and you sit and talk to me on the floor
There's no need to show me round baby, I feel like I've been in here before
I've been wondering whether later when you tell everybody to go,
Will you pour me one for the road?

I knew this would be on the cards
    I knew you wouldn't fold
I saw this coming from the start
    The shake, rattle and roll

One for the road, ooh ooh

So we all go back to yours and you sit and talk to me on the floor
There's no need to show me round baby, I feel like I've been in here before
I've been wondering whether later when you tell everybody to go,
Will you pour me one for the road?

    The mixture hits you hard
Don't get that sinking feeling, don't fall apart
    Some out of tune guitar
    Soundtrack to disaster

Ooh ooh, one for the road
Ooh ooh, one for the road
Ooh ooh, one for the road
Ooh ooh, one for the road

So we all go back to yours and you sit and talk to me on the floor
There's no need to show me round baby, I feel like I've been in here before

    One For The Road
  • This is a track from the Arctic Monkeys fifth studio album, AM. The song was debuted on September 2, 2013, during Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show.
  • Frontman Alex Turner described AM's sound to NME as, "like a Dr. Dre beat, but we've given it an Ike Turner bowl-cut and sent it galloping across the desert on a Stratocaster." Turner also cited the music of Outkast, and Aaliyah as helping to shape the LP. This song's R&B feel reflects the aforementioned musicians influences on the record.
  • Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme delvers soulful backing vocals on both this tune and another AM track, "Knee Socks." Homme sung using a tequila bottle he'd just emptied as an echo chamber.
  • The phrase "One For The Road" refers to a final drink before leaving home to fortify one for the journey ahead. The expression and practice has fallen victim to the increasing enforcement of drink-driving over the past few decades.
  • The black-and-white video represents the Arctic Monkeys individual take on Americana as we see them perform the song in a field, amidst a gaggle of models. It starts with guitarist Jamie Cook slowly riding a tractor as he makes his way to the band's gig clad in a 3-piece suit. The clip was directed by Focus Creeps, who also made the visuals for "R U Mine?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?"
  • The song's guitar solo was originally on "Fireside." Turner told NME: "It was on there in a different key, but it didn't really seem to fit."

    Stage Fright Lyrics

Now deep in the heart of a lonely kid
Who suffered so much for what he did,
They gave this ploughboy his fortune and fame,
Since that day he ain't been the same.

    [Chorus]
See the man with the Stage Fright
Just standing up there to give it all his might.
And he got caught in the spotlight,
But when we get to the end
He wants to start all over again.

I've got fire water right on my breath
And the doctor warned me I might catch a death.
Said, "You can make it in your disguise,
Just never show the fear that's in your eyes."

See the man with the stage fright
Just standing up there to give it all his might.
And he got caught in the spotlight,
But when we get to the end
He wants to start all over again.

Now if he says that he's afraid,
    Take him at his word.
And for the price that the poor boy has paid,
He gets to sing just like a bird, oh, ooh ooh ooh.

Your brow is sweating and your mouth gets dry,
    Fancy people go drifting by.
The moment of truth is right at hand,
Just one more nightmare you can stand.

See the man with the stage fright
Just standing up there to give it all his might.
And he got caught in the spotlight,
But when we get to the end
He wants to start all over again.

You want to try it once again,
    Please don't make him stop,
Let him take it from the top,
Let him start all over again.

    Stage Fright
  • Band bassist Rick Danko was chosen to sing this. His voice had a tendency to sound somewhat nervous.
  • Fillmore owner and operator Bill Graham once called this the greatest song about performing ever written.
  • The album was mixed twice by two different people. The Band was looking for a different sound from their homey first pair of albums, and so they hired Todd Rundgren to mix Stage Fright. However, Band drummer Levon Helm disliked Rundgren greatly at the time, and Glyn Johns (famous for his work with Led Zeppelin at the time) was brought in. As a result, there were two mixes used for the original album. In later years, the album would be reissued numerous times with varying ratios of Rundgren and Johns material.
