Troubeaux Lyrics

This love is so dangerous
But I kinda like the thrill
It’s like a sugar rush
It’s only the way you make me feel
I didn't see you coming
But you broke me down

'Cause you got some ?
Walk up like I know you
Bald head and your tattoos
One smile and, oh

I gotta admit you’re fly
And I love it how you talk babe
Getting all in my mind
Running it like a field play
I didn’t see you coming
But you broke me down
'Cause you got some ?
Walk up like I know you
Bald head and your tattoos
Damn

This is ain’t no ordinary boy
This is ain’t no ordinary boy
See the funny thing about you
You got me doing things I wouldn’t do
You ain’t no ordinary boy
You gon’ be trouble (oh)
You gon’ be trouble (oh)
You gon’ be trouble

I deep down know I, should be good
I am blind
You’re the kinda guy
That always got all these girls running after you
Do I entertain or play with you
Or just be cool

Cause you ?
Walk up like I know you
Bald head and your tattoos
One smile and, oh

Don’t slip
I think I’m about to find
So close
Wrapped up in the heat of it all
I’ve had the fantasies
Of how it’s gonna be

'Cause you got ?
You walk up like I know you
Bald head and your tattoos
Damn

This is ain’t no ordinary boy
This is ain’t no ordinary boy
See the funny thing about you
You got me doing things I wouldn’t do
You ain’t no ordinary boy

You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble oh

Yo, got Henny in the cup, Jenny knows what's up
She with a real one not pretending to be tough
Got three cases, might have a warrant I don't know about
Beef I don't know about, weed I can’t go without
My money used to pile up every beginning of the month
Unconditional love, in the beginning it was lust
Hustler, shooter, was a dealer on the block
Now my future’s on top no longer dealing with the thots
I don’t go nowhere without the handle
Like I heard Lil' Boosie was out in Louisiana
Got friends in the fed, some dead over drugs
Fucking with me it’s high-risk but she still in love (we in love baby)
Benny Medina might wanna pay me to leave ya
I’m bad for your image, the ghetto menacing diva
‘cause some say Nas is trouble
We all in, just ignore them nice guys is boring, I got you

This is ain’t no ordinary boy
This is ain’t no ordinary boy
See the funny thing about you
You got me doing things I wouldn’t do
You ain’t no ordinary boy

You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble oh
You gon’ be trouble

Troubeaux
  • This song finds J.Lo yearning for a man who she believes is her dream lover. However, she recognizes the imminent complications of a troublesome romance. The song title is pronounced "trouble."
  • Nas adds some rhymes to the track, rapping about leaving the streets behind and settling down with his newfound love. The two artists previously joined forces on the 2002 song, "I'm Gonna Be Alright." when Nas replaced 50 Cent on the radio version.
  • The song samples the sax solo from Tom Scott and the California Dreamers' 1967 jazz cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Today." The sax solo was famously borrowed by Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth for their classic tune, "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" as well as by Lupe Fiasco for his 2012 single "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)."

Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) Lyrics

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs, and still-frames in your mind
Hang it on the shelf of good health and good time
Tattoo's of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth, it was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
  • Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this when his girlfriend moved to Ecuador. He tried to be levelheaded about it, but to show his anger, he named the song "Good Riddance" and made "Time Of Your Life" the subtitle. The song shows us about life, how we are not to question it and keep moving on. (thanks, Rainah - Tacoma, WA)
  • This was written as an acoustic song to distinguish it from the heavily produced rock music that was popular in the '90s. Armstrong recalled to Spin Magazine in a 2010 interview: "That was really the first time we attempted a ballad. The first time we ever played that song was during an encore in New Jersey - I had to pound a beer backstage to get up the courage. I knew we were gonna take a tomato to the face."

The song was such a sonic departure for the band that record stores reported a high rate of returns from customers who purchased the Nimrod album expecting similar songs.
  • Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song in 1993 and submitted it for the band's first major label album, Dookie, which was released in 1994. Both the band and their label agreed that it was a great song, but didn't fit on the album, which was loaded with Punk blasters. The song was held back and included on the Nimrod album.
  • This song was featured on two very high-profile TV shows in 1998. It was used on the penultimate Seinfeld episode in a scene where the cast takes a nostalgic look back at all the adventures they had on the show. It also featured in the ER in an episode "Gut Reaction," in a scene where a young boy dies of cancer.
  • The album version begins with guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong playing a wrong note. He begins again, repeats the wrong note, and proclaims "f--k!". Then the actual song begins. Radio versions, of course, omit this. (thanks, Tom - New York, NY)
  • This played when England walked onto the pitch in their football match against France in the 1998 World Cup. (thanks, Leanne - Crawley, England)
  • This was the official theme for golf's PGA Tour in 1998. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • This won for Best Alternative Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.
  • Billie Joe Armstrong came up for the video's concept. Directed by Mark Kohr, it pauses on ordinary moments in people's everyday lives. To capture the "still frames in your mind," the extras were told not too blink, but some of them couldn't help it. Armstrong does plenty of blinking, but you won't see him smiling. Drummer Tre Cool chipped Armstrong's front teeth while he was throwing television sets out of their hotel window - a stunt that nearly cost them the video.

    Sad Girl Lyrics

Being a mistress on the side
It might not appeal to fools like you
We've been around on the side
Wanna be something you would do

But you haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen him

He's got the fire and he walks with fame
He's got the fire and he talks with fame
His Bonnie on the side, Bonnie on the side
    Makes me so sad, girl
His money on the side, money on the side
    Makes me so sad, girl

    I'm a Sad Girl, I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl
    I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm a bad girl

Being a bad bitch on the side
It might not appeal to fools like you
We've been around when he gets high
It might not be something you would do

But you haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen my man
    You haven't seen him

Watch what you say to me
    Careful who you're talking to

    Sad Girl
  • This lounge Jazz ballad finds Del Rey singing about how "being a mistress on the side, might not appeal to fools like you." Asked by The Guardian where the inspiration came from, she replied: "A good question. I mean … I had different relationships with men, with people, where they were sort of wrong relationships, but still beautiful to me."

The Guardian interviewer then asked: "By wrong does she mean being the other woman?"

Del Rey replied coyly: "I mean, I guess so."

    Be Like That Lyrics

He spends his nights in California
Watching the stars on the big screen.
Then he lies awake and wonders
    Why can't that be me?
Cause in his life he's filled with all these good intentions.
He's left a lot of things he'd rather not mention right now.
But just before he says goodnight,
He looks up with a little smile at me and he says

If I could Be Like That
    I'd give anything
    Just to live one day
    In those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
    What would I do?

    Now and dreams we run.

She spends her days up in the north park,
watching the people as they pass.
And all she wants is just a little piece of this dream, is that too much to ask?
With a safe home, and a warm bed, on a quiet little street.
All she wants is just that something to hold onto, that's all she needs.

    Yeah!

If I could be like that, I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
    What would I do?

I'm falling into this, in dreams we run away.

If I could be like that, I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
    What would I do?

If I could be like that, I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
    What would I do?

If I could be like that, I would give anything
Just to live one day, in those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
    What would I do?

    Falling in.
I feel I am falling in to this again.

    Be Like That
  • "This song," 3DD lead singer Brad Arnold told us, "was strange, because I wrote the verses and the choruses at two completely different times. And I couldn't think of the verse for the chorus, or the chorus for the verse." Until one night driving home from band practice, the singer had an epiphany, "and I was sitting in my car singing, and I put those two together, and I was like, Duh. And I went home and just got a three chord structure going for the melody of it, and took it to practice the next day, and I asked Chris to make something out of it, and he came back the next day and he had it, and it just went from there."

Arnold confesses to having no ability to play guitar, so when he writes a song, it's more like "chicken pecking" notes, and it can be a long process.
  • According to Arnold, this song is about following your dreams. "And I know everybody has 'em. It's not also just about following your dreams, though. It's kind of a little bit about dreams that you've missed, and a little notion of regret, also."

The person in the first verse of the song is fictional, and Arnold left it open to interpretation on whether that person is older or younger. He explains: "It's just kind of an idea. And it's kind of weird. Maybe it doesn't have a perfect string full of lyrics in that first verse, and for me I've never thought it had a perfect one, because it's almost suggesting that it's an older person, but in a lot of ways it's kind of suggesting it's a younger person. But I left it like that because I want things to be like that. I want it to be like it would be interpreted a lot of different ways. I don't do it so much anymore, but I used to think that when I write lyrics, I tried to do every line to where it could be taken more than one way. And my thought process behind that was, Well, if I can get two meanings out of it, then there are countless meanings out there for somebody else to apply it to their own life."

He also offers this bit of philosophy: "The difference in a good song and a great song, to me, is the difference in a good book and a good movie: They're both telling you the same story. They both have the same outcome. But whereas the movie is telling you exactly what to see and be heard, the book kind of lets you see whatever your mind comes up with, and it makes it a lot more applicable to your life in a lot of ways." (Check out our full interview with Brad Arnold)
  • With a small edit to the first lines of this song, this song was re-recorded and used in the movie American Pie 2. This version is known as the "American Pie 2 Edit."
  • In the second verse, the lyrics "She spends her days up in the Northpark" refer to The Northpark Mall in Mississippi, where the band is from. (thanks, Brittany - Jackson, MS)
  • This was one of the tracks on 3 Doors Down's debut album. The next year, it was included on the compilation Now That's What I Call Music!, Vol. 8.

    Money Power Glory Lyrics

You say that you wanna go
To a land that's far away
How are we supposed to get there
With the way that we're living today?

    You talk lots about God
    Freedom comes from the call
But that's not what this bitch wants
No what I want at all

I want money, power and glory
I want money and all your power, all your glory
Alleluia, I wanna take you for all that you got
Alleluia, I'm gonna take them for all that they got

The sun also rises on those who fail to call
My life, it comprises of losses and wins and fails and falls
I can do it if you really, really like that
I know what you really want, b-baby
I can do it if you think you like that
    You should run, boy, run

I want money, power and glory
I want money and all your power, all your glory
Alleluia, I wanna take you for all that you got
Alleluia, I'm gonna take them for all that they got

    Dope and diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    Diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    That's all I want

    Dope and diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    Diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    Dope and diamonds
    Diamonds

I want money, power and glory
I want money and all your power, all your glory

    Money Power Glory
  • This crowing statement of defiance was written by Del Rey as a reaction to critics of her rise to fame. "I was in more of a sardonic mood," she told The Guardian of writing that song. "Like, if all that I was actually going to be allowed to have by the media was money, loads of money, then f--k it."
  • The seething slow jam was written in response to the image that has been projected on Del Rey by the media. Speaking to The New York Times, she admitted its likely to snarl her persona even further. "Carl Jung said that inevitably what other people think of you becomes a small facet of your psyche, whether you want it to or not," she said, "I learned that whatever I did elicited an opposite response, so I'm sure 'Money, Power, Glory' will actually resonate with people as being what I really do want. I already know what's coming, so it's OK to explore irony and bitterness."
  • Del Rey penned the song with Greg Kurstin (Pink's "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)," Sia's "Chandelier"). The Californian producer told NME about their collaboration: "'Money, Power, Glory' was one of the earlier songs written on the album and it stuck around.," he said. "I wasn't really sure what was going to happen because we did it so early and I know she went through a lot of writing after that point."

"It's interesting that what ended up on the album is actually the original mix that we finished that day; we didn't re-cut or re-record anything," Kurstin added. "But it was great when I finally heard where she went and I think it was really cool that she went organic with live musicians."

    I'm so happy because today
    I've found my friends
    They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay, cause so are you
    We've broken our mirrors

    Cause I've found god
    Hey, hey, hey

I'm so lonely but that's okay I shaved my head
    And I'm not sad
And just maybe I'm to blame for all I've heard
    But I'm not sure
I'm so excited, I can't wait to meet you there
    But I don't care
I'm so horny but that's okay
    My will is good
    Hey, hey, hey

I like it, I'm not gonna crack
I miss you, I'm not gonna crack
I love you, I'm not gonna crack
I killed you, I'm not gonna crack

I like it, I'm not gonna crack

    Lithium
  • There is a lot of self-loathing going on in this song, as Kurt Cobain sings, "I'm so ugly" and takes the voice of a man on the brink of killing himself - dysfunctional, random, and all of that. Cobain made it clear that most of the time, he wasn't singing about himself in his songs, but was pulling from what he saw in other people. This depressive theme crept into some of the songs on their In Utero album as well, which at one point was going to be called "I Hate Myself And I Want To Die." At live shows, Cobain would sometimes put this in perspective, asking the audience, "Hey everybody, why so glum?"
  • Lithium is a drug used by doctors and psychiatrists to treat patients with manic-depressive disorder, also known as bipolar depression. This is a very volatile mental condition, and Lithium often helps regulate the mood of the patient. Mike Tyson is a famous lithium patient.
  • The CD single contained a sonogram photo of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's unborn child, Frances Bean; Kurt said he thought he saw Frances doing the heavy metal devil horn hand gesture when he watched the sonogram. The single also included all the lyrics to the songs on the Nevermind album, so people could finally figure out what Kurt was singing in "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
  • The album was produced by Butch Vig . He also produced the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and is the drummer for the band Garbage.
  • Kurt Cobain collaborated with Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan in an informal blues band during 1990. One of the names they considered for the group was Lithium. (thanks, Adam - Dewsbury, England)
  • There was a group called Nirvana that was around from 1967-1972 and had modest success in Europe. That band got back together and sued Kurt Cobain's Nirvana in the early 1990s for taking their name. The suit was amiably resolved, and the other Nirvana released their version of "Lithium" on their 1996 album Orange And Blue. (thanks, Andrew - Cape Town, South Africa)
  • Cobain spent a period of his life moving between the homes of various relatives and friends. One of these friends came from a family of reformed Christians, and in this song Cobain compares living in this house to having bipolar depression.
  • Living Color guitarist Vernon Reid told Rolling Stone magazine: "My favorite song on Nevermind was 'Lithium.' Kurt Cobain tapped into something in the culture that nobody had given a voice to before: passionate ambivalence: 'I'm so ugly, but that's OK 'cause so are you.' He captured the idea of having incredibly powerful feelings about not having feelings." (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)
  • Bruce Lash recorded a mellow lounge version that was used in the 2008 movie Marley & Me. Lash explains: "I recorded the song as part of an album I did called Prozak For Lovers II, in 2004. I did the first Prozak For Lovers in 1998. I was looking for songs that were hard or angry or alienated to make sort of loungy Bossa Novas out of. Calm them down. Make them soothing. 'Lithium' has such a beautiful melody, and I never realized how great the lyrics were until I started working on the Prozak version of it. it was a natural!
The thing about this kind of song treatment is that the lyrics really come to the front, and I find the result is especially pleasing when the lyrics are as good as they are in this song.

How did it get into Marley? The film's editor, Mark Livolsi, told me that he had put it in the cut fairly early on, and its placement was never questioned. I have no idea how he came across my recording of the song. I did, however, send him a fruit basket, as a thank you. :)" (Thanks to Bruce for filling us in. Prozak For Lovers II is available at CD Baby and on iTunes.)
  • Nirvana performed this at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. It was quite an eventful evening for the band, as they wanted to play "Rape Me" but MTV wanted "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Cobain had to check out of rehab to attend the show, and had made comments disparaging MTV in the past. At rehearsals, a standoff ensued where MTV threatened to go nuclear, banning not just Nirvana, but other acts from their label if they didn't fall in line. "Lithium" was the compromise, but Nirvana made the network sweat, playing a few seconds of "Rape Me" before going into their agreed upon song. During the song, after a bit of network-sanctioned stage diving from the crowd, they smashed up their instruments, with Krist Novoselic getting hit in the head by his bass - a fairly common event at Nirvana finales. Kurt Cobain also had beef with Axl Rose at the show, and Kurt made sure to spit on Axl's keyboard after a backstage altercation.
  • The video was made up of footage of the band performing at the Reading Festival in England, where they were the headliners in 1992.

    Blue hydrangea, cold cash divine
    Cashmere, cologne and white sunshine
Red racing cars, sunset and vine
The kids were young and pretty
    Where have you been?
    Where did you go?
Those summer nights seem long ago
And so is the girl you used to call
The queen of New York City

But if you send for me, you know I'll come
And if you call for me, you know I'll run
I'll run to you, I'll run to you
    I'll run, run, run
I'll come to you, I'll come to you
    I'll come, come, come
    Oh-oh oh, oh-oh oh

The power of youth is on my mind
Sunsets, small town, I'm out of time
Will you still love me when I shine
From words but not from beauty
My father's love was always strong
My mother's glamour lives on and on
Yet still inside, I felt alone
    For reasons unknown to me

But if you send for me, you know I'll come
And if you call for me, you know I'll run
I'll run to you, I'll run to you

If you change your mind, I'll come, come, come
    Oh-oh oh, ah-ah ah

    Old Money
  • Del Rey wrote this lovelorn lament of a lost lover with Robbie Fitzsimmons of the duo Ellyn & Robbie. It was produced by Dan Heath, who is best known for his scoring work with Hans Zimmer on such films as Pirates of the Carribean and The Da Vinci Code.
  • The ballad is melodically based on "Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet," which was written by Nino Rota for Franco Zeffirelli's film version of Romeo and Juliet. A rearrangement by Henry Mancini was a #1 pop hit in the United States in 1969.
  • The song is an update both melodically and lyrically, of Del Rey's unreleased song "Methamphetamines."

    Gods and Monsters Lyrics

In the land of Gods and Monsters,
    I was an angel.
Living in the garden of evil,
Screwed up, scared, doing anything that I needed.
    Shining like a fiery beacon,
You got that medicine I need
Fame, liquor, love, give it to me slowly.
Put your hands on my waist, do it softly.
Me and God we don’t get along, so now I sing.

No one’s gonna take my soul away,
    Living like Jim Morrison.
Headed towards a fucked up holiday.
Motel, sprees, sprees, and I’m singing,
Fuck yeah give it to me, this is heaven, what I truly want
    It's innocence lost.
    Innocence lost.

In the land of gods and monsters,
I was an angel, lookin' to get fucked hard.
Like a groupie incognito posing as a real singer,
    Life imitates art
You got that medicine I need
Dope, shoot it up straight to the heart please
I don't really wanna know what's good for me
God's dead, I said 'baby that's alright with me'.

No one’s gonna take my soul away,
    Living like Jim Morrison.
Headed towards a fucked up holiday.
Motel, sprees, sprees, and I’m singing,
Fuck yeah give it to me, this is heaven, what I truly want
    It's innocence lost.
    Innocence lost.

When you talk it's like a movie and you're making me crazy,
    'Cause life imitates art.
If I get a little prettier, can I be your baby?
You tell me life isn't that hard.

No one’s gonna take my soul away,
    I'm living like Jim Morrison.
Headed towards a fucked up holiday.
Motel, sprees, sprees, and I’m singing,
Fuck yeah, give it to me, this is heaven, what I truly want.
    It's innocence lost.
    Innocence lost.

    Rape Me
  • Kurt Cobain wanted to make a strong statement in support of women and against violence toward them. In his words, the song is a sort of poetic justice. A guy rapes a girl. He ends up in jail and is raped there. It's also believed that the song was in direct relation to his feeling of being raped by the media, in particular Vanity Fair and MTV. (thanks, Justin Gregg - Harrah, OK)
  • In 1996, Wal-Mart adopted a policy of not carrying any objectionable materials in their stores. While they continued to sell guns and cigarettes, they made many musicians alter their albums before they would sell them, resulting in "clean" and "dirty" versions of many albums. Nirvana had to change the title listed on the album to "Waif Me" before Wal-Mart would carry it.
  • The guitar in this song is basically "Smells Like Teen Spirit" backwards. Cobain thought that if a song was played backwards it would take on a new character. (thanks, Max - Merrick, NY)
  • Cobain wrote this from the perspective of a victim replying to a rapist. It's the reverse of Nivana's "Polly," which is from the perspective of the rapist.
  • At the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, Nirvana were told strictly by MTV not to perform this when they opened the show. In a typical Cobain move, the band strummed the opening chords of the song, sending MTV execs into a panic, before switching to the less controversial "Lithium." (thanks, Matt - Millbrae, CA)

    All For Nothing Lyrics

    Yeah, uh
    So whatcha waiting for?
    Anticipating more
    While you debate
What it can take to instigate a war
Yeah, I've been hated more than
    Time I wasn't hated for
There's nothing they can fucking say
    They didn't say before

    You could never see it
    Your battle's not mine
Wanna skate and play it safe
But this is take a shot time
    You waiting for a purpose?
    I already got mine
While you tell me "step to it like
    One, two, three, four"

And if I do what you demand (You say)
You'll let me understand (You say)
You're gonna hold me to your word
And if I sell myself away (You say)
I'll have no debt to pay (You say)
I'm gonna get what I deserve

    No more, obey
    My debt repaid
    Our trust betrayed
All For Nothing, all for nothing

Came back, there's no other way to say it
So let me break this fucker down for ya'
    I really don't know ya'
You talk but let me show ya'
    Where to put your paranoia
You joke and I don't half a half a sucker bone to throw ya
I'm disgusted by what can make you tuck your tail below ya
And no, I'm not your soldier
    I'm not taking any orders
    I'm a five-star general infantry controller
Need a lesson, let me show ya'
    Have you checking your composure
While I make you step to it like
    One, two, three, four

And if I do what you demand (You say)
You'll let me understand (You say)
You're gonna hold me to your word
And if I sell myself away (You say)
I'll have no debt to pay (You say)
I'm gonna get what I deserve

And if I do what you demand

    All For Nothing
  • This defiant song features a guest spot from Helmet vocalist and guitarist Page Hamilton. Vocalist Chester Bennington told New Zealand's 3 News, "When we got Page in, Mike [Shinoda, co-vocalist and producer] had written this chorus and sang it, and his voice had this tone, and it was unlike anything I'd heard from him before. And I was like, 'Dude, this is crazy, this sounds like a Helmet song! It's cool!' And we were like, 'Dude, why don't we see if we can get like Page in here?' You know? And if that's why the song says it's feeling like it should be, then why don't we just go straight to the source."

    Across The Sea Lyrics

    Across The Sea
  • This is about a Japanese fan who wrote a letter to lead singer Rivers Cuomo after hearing Weezer on the radio. Cuomo responded to her letter with this song.

In this song, Rivers tells of his obsession for the Japanese fan who wrote the letter. "...So I sniff and I lick your envelope and fall to little pieces every time. I wonder what clothes you wear to school, I wonder how you decorate your room, I wonder how you touch yourself and curse myself for being across the sea...."

Cuomo says they never met, stating: "Even if I did see her, she was probably some fourteen-year-old girl, who didn't speak English." (thanks, Joseph - Salt Lake City, UT)
  • Rivers Cuomo was asked by Kerrang! magazine June 21, 2008 if the Japanese fan ever realized the song was about her. The Weezer frontman replied: "Yes, she knows it's her. When I wrote the song I took her letter and I literally lifted lines from the letter and put them in the song, so she actually collects royalties on that song."
  • The album is named after a character in the opera Madame Butterfly. The album is loosely based on the opera, which is about an American military officer who goes to Japan and falls in love with a geisha.
  • The laugh heard at the beginning of the song comes from drummer Pat Wilson.
  • Cuomo wrote this while studying at Harvard University and recovering from a leg surgery. The strength of this song inspired him to shelve the rock opera/musical Songs from the Black Hole and develop Pinkerton, instead.
  • Five years after this song's debut performance, Weezer brought it back to their setlist for the 2002 Japan World Cup Tour to satisfy the overwhelming fan requests.
