Mr. Brownstone

This song is about how heroin affected the band. Mr. Brownstone is likely to be their dealer. Brownstone isn't a common slang term for heroin, but it is brown, which is likely to be where the dealer got his name from. (thanks, Sterv - Donny, England)

Axl Rose's lyrics mention how the band would take heroin before performing at concerts. "The show usually starts around 7, we go on stage around 9" means they were two hours late for the show because of the drug. Later he sings: "Now I get up around whenever, I used to get up on time," meaning he doesn't care anymore about it, he's so obsessed with heroin.

At the end of the song in the lyrics: "Shoved it in the bindle and I shot it in the middle And it, it drove outta my mind I should've known better, said I wish I never met her, said I leave it all behind," A bindle is a "dimebag" full of heroin, he shot it in the middle, getting rid of it, and says he wished he never met her (her being heroin) and he just quit it cold turkey. Velvet Revolver, which was formed by three former Guns N' Roses members, regularly played this at their shows.

While opening for The Rolling Stones at a show in Los Angeles on October 18th, 1989, Axl Rose said on stage: "Unless certain people in this band get their s--t together, these will be the last Guns N' Roses shows you'll f--king ever see. Cause I'm tired of too many people in this organization dancing with Mr. G--damn Brownstone." It apparently got the attention of his bandmates, as Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steve Adler promised to clean up.

Axl Rose, on his reputation for starting shows late: "I pretty much follow my own internal clock, and I perform better later at night. Nothing seems to work out for me until later at night. And it is our show. I don't want to make people sit around and wait - it drives me nuts. That hour-and-a-half or two-hour time period that I'm late going onstage is living hell, because I'm wishing there was any way on earth I could get out of where I am and knowing I'm not going to be able to make it." Good Ol' Boys Like Us

Discovered in the spring of 2010 on YouTube by noted producer Jeremy Stover, JJ Lawhorn signed with Average Joes Entertainment in 2011 and released his debut album, Original Good Ol' Boy two years later. This is the second single to be released from the set. It was made available on iTunes on February 18, 2014.

This self-penned song stresses the value of never-ending friendships and was the result of a tragic event that hit close to home for the rural Virginian. "'Good Ol' Boys Like Us' is a true story inspired by the passing of a friend that devastated my hometown community a few years back," Lawhorn explained.

Four months after the release of the Original Good Ol' Boy album in July 2013, a good friend of Lawhorn's died in a motorcycle accident. "While it has always been special to me, the tune took on a new meaning after my best friend and former drummer died in a tragic motorcycle accident two months ago," Lawhorn said when announcing the song's single release. "There isn't another song that I've ever written that is closer to my heart. Its message is one of hope; a reminder that we are never alone even after our loved ones are gone."

Lawhorn was inspired to write the song after seeing how everybody came together to celebrate his friend's life after he'd passed away. "I wanted to write something that inspired people just to think about, hey, even though this person's gone, they're still with us," he told The Boot . "They're still watching over us. They're like guardian angels."

Lawhorn knew that the video for the song needed a special approach. "I just told [the record company], 'I'm gonna go shoot this video in my hometown, and I'm gonna go to the places that we used to go, and I'm gonna film things that we used to see and do.' Me and the producer talked for a long time about just trying to make everything as authentic as possible," he said.

"It's freaky to me to watch it, because I've actually got my best friend's little brother playing him as a kid, and his little buddy playing me as a kid," Lawhorn added. "Throughout the video, you see these kids running around shooting BB guns and whatever, just doing all these different things, carving stuff out of trees — things that we used to do, and it shows me remembering it all."

This song was inspired by the frequent IRA bombings in Ireland. The lyrics are intended to tell the story of a fellow who is just out shopping and ends up killed as an innocent bystander in an IRA bombing. Centuries of feuding between the Protestants and the Catholics have caused many deaths and severe injuries, not just to the people involved in the conflicts, but to innocent bystanders as well.

This is the third single from Heavy Metal Music, the debut studio album from Newsted, which is led by former Metallica bass player Jason Newsted . He said: "As far as the new recordings go, it's one of my favorite moments, if not my favorite moment, on the record — the dual-lead guitar thing in the last 30 seconds of the song."

The video was filmed with director Leon Melas, who previously helmed Newsted's clips for the tracks "Soldierhead" and "King Of The Underdogs."
