Lolly Lyrics

She say she love my Lolly
She wanna make it pop
She say she love my lolly
She wanna kiss the top
She say she love my lolly
She love my lollipop
She say she love my lolly
She say she love my lolly

She say she love to party, girl, I love your body
Why you on the table? Cause you know I'm watching
She say she love my molly, so we can leave this party
And go back to my hotel, and don't stop for Hibachi
Don't stop in the lobby, I hope you massage me
I hope you can take it when I make you call me papi
Club about to close, come up out them clothes
I'm about to give you what you asking for

Order what you want girl, it ain't no problem
I'mma tell the waitress that my baby need a bottle
Order what you want, said it ain't no problem
Got a piece of candy and it's all for you

She say she love my lolly
She wanna make it pop
She say she love my lolly
She wanna kiss the top
She say she love my lolly
She love my lollipop
She say she love my lolly
She say she love my lolly

(Girl I love them heels, and yeah I love that dress
I wanna take you home, show you I'm the best)

She say she love my lolly, she love my lollipop
She says she loves my lolly, she says she loves my lolly

Throwing up a G note, like I'm at a casino
I'm all fancy, yeah I'm popping Pellegrino
I'm in the El Camino when I pull up on the scene though
You know I'm a real OG and baby I ain't from the T.O
I'm messing with the clique though, meet me on the sixth floor
Know you ain't a model, you should let me take some pics though
Windows down, speakers loud, look down at my sneakers now
Got so many features, tell the creatures just to beat it now
Fifty for the necklace, look down at my set list
Got your girlfriend at my crib watching Netflix
Let's just admit that I'm the bestest
Guess this, you ain't never ever on the guest list

Order what you want girl, it ain't no problem
I'mma tell the waitress that my baby need a bottle
Order what you want, said it ain't no problem
Got a piece of candy and it's all for you

She say she love my lolly
She wanna make it pop
She say she love my lolly
She wanna kiss the top
She say she love my lolly
She love my lollipop
She say she love my lolly
She say she love my lolly

(Girl I love them heels, and yeah I love that dress
I wanna take you home, show you I'm the best)

She say she love my lolly
She love my lollipop
She say she love my lolly

Ass everywhere, throw them dollars in the air (mhmm)
Bring your swimming gear, Juicy J the millionaire (mhmm)
She pop that pussy on me, I fell back in the chair
Bands a make her dance, molly make her lose them underwear
Booty cheeks, I'm geeked, (you know it) all her friends are freaks (you know it)
And I think she love me, I've been hitting it for a week (swish)
I drill it, slap it silly, need a super freak like Ricky
I'm Rick James bitch, I slip myself a mickey
Got so much money in my pocket
With a real bad chick from the tropics
With silicone racks with a real big ass

Lolly
  • Maejor Ali is an American recording artist, songwriter and music producer from Detroit, who was formerly known as Bei Maejor. Amongst the artists he has produced are Keri Hilson, Sean Paul, and Iggy Azalea.
  • This club dance track is the third single from Maejor Ali's debut album, Something About B.M., which was released on Justin Bieber's, Schoolboy Records label. Having co-produced Bieber's Believe track "One Love," as well as working with him on the Lil Twist single "Twerk," the Detroit artist recruited the Canadian superstar to spit some bars on this song's second verse.
  • Bieber's verse about swiping someone else's girlfriend is a rare example of the Canadian Pop star rapping on a commercial release, rather than a mixtape track or various freestyles. The teen idol's appearance on the oral sex referencing track is also an attempt by Bieber to shed his tween image and cross over into an adult artist.
  • Juicy J spits the third verse where he references the drug Molly, which for those not in the know is MDNA, or Ecstasy. (It also conveniently rhymes with lolly).
  • Ali told The Boombox he likes to do odd match-ups like on this song. "The main thing I want to do with collaborations is bring people from different worlds together," he explained. "Kind of like Juicy and Justin, because I think that it's just fun for people to see name that they wouldn't expect to work together, and when they hear it, it somehow works."

All These Things That I've Done Lyrics

When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
    One more son
    If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I want to stand up, I want to let go
You know, you know - no you don't, you don't
I want to shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

    Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out

And when there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
    These changes ain't changing me
The cold-hearted boy I used to be

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
    You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
    You're gonna bring yourself down
    You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

Over and again, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With All These Things That I've Done
All these things that I've done
    (Time, truth, hearts)
    If you can hold on
    If you can hold on

All These Things That I've Done
  • This song is about growing up and moving on from the past, trying to make yourself a better person. It was written by lead singer Brandon Flowers when he was working as a bellman at the Gold Coast casino in Las Vegas. Since this was before cellphones, he would call his friends from work and leave song ideas on their answering machines if inspiration struck.
  • Like their hit "Mr. Brightside," this song has two videos. The first version has The Killers singing while walking down a London street. The second version was directed by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, and features a surreal, dreamlike sequence where The Killers, dressed as cowboys, are attacked by scantily clad female warriors armed with boomerangs (possibly inspired by the Russ Meyer film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!).
  • The Killers often play this as the closer for their concerts, and the lyrics, "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" have become a sing-along moment. Lead singer Brandon Flowers told Rolling Stone about the line in 2009: "I can specifically remember being in Ronnie Vannucci's garage when I wrote it that. I don't know why I wrote it, but I know I'd been listening to a lot of U2's Joshua Tree and All That You Can't Leave Behind. Some people act like that line is nonsense, and I just don't understand that. If you listen to the song, it makes perfect sense. Our fans get it."
  • Brandon Flowers says that Lou Reed was a huge influence on this song, as the chorus and the "gotta help me out" part were Flowers imitating Reed's delivery. Three years after recording the song, the Killers teamed up with Reed on "Tranquilize."
  • The song features the Sweet Inspirations Gospel vocal group, who were founded by Cissy Houston, the mother of Whitney Houston. The Sweet Inspirations sang with Elvis Presley and provided the back up vocals for Van Morrison on his classic hit "Brown Eyed Girl" as well as scoring their own Hot 100 top 40 hit in 1968 with "Sweet Inspiration."
  • According to Flowers, this song's bass line is "a direct rip-off" from the 2002 David Bowie track "Slow Burn."

    Sirens Lyrics

    Sirens
  • This soaring, bittersweet love song was released as the second single from Pearl Jam's tenth studio album Lightning Bolt. It finds Eddie Vedder crooning:

"I could take your hand and feel your breath.
Or feel that someday we'll be over."

"I remember when [Vedder] played that for us in his room right after he wrote the lyrics," recalled bassist Jeff Ament. "I think he had stayed up the night before writing."
  • Producer Brendan O'Brien, who has worked with Pearl Jam since their 1993 Vs. album, called this emotional ballad, "one of the best songs they've ever written."
  • Eddie Vedder talked to Rolling Stone about writing mellower music in his middle age, such as this song. The Pearl Jam frontman said there is more "sentimentality" in his lyrics nowadays, adding, "For years, it was playing word games and expressing those emotions, but doing it in such a way that was cryptic and where Mark Arm from Mudhoney would still have some modicum of respect for me. But nowadays, it's more like sitting down and writing a song, and whatever comes out, comes out."
  • The accompanying music video is a performance clip directed by photographer Danny Clinch, who also helmed the visual for "Mind Your Manners."
  • The ballad is one of several tracks on Lightning Bolt that reference mortality. Vedder told Rolling Stone the album has a lot of lyrics about the passing of life and ageing because "They say to write what you know. I think that's maybe one thing that we all know [laughs]. It's living while you're alive, and living to the day you die, and being cognizant of the end, and you might lead a more appreciative life, if that's part of your approach."
  • Guitarist Mike McCready told Billboard magazine that he wrote the music for the song after a Roger Waters concert for The Wall inspired him. "I wanted to write something that would have a Pink Floyd type feel," he said, "We recorded a demo of it [but Vedder] didn't put the lyrics on it until the second time we went back in... I heard them the night that he put them on there and they just brought me to tears. This is Ed at his best in my mind."

    Different Strings Lyrics

Who's come to slay the dragon
    Come to watch him fall
Making arrows out of pointed words
    Giant killers, at the call
    Too much fuss and bother
    Too much contradiction
    And confusion
    Peel away the mystery
Here's a clue to some real motivation

    All there really is
    The two of us
And we both know why we've come along
    Nothing to explain
    It's a part of us
To be found within a song

    What happened to our innocence
Did it go out of style?
    Along with our naivete?
    No longer a child
    Different eyes see different things
    Different hearts
    Beat on Different Strings
    But there are times
    For you and me
    When all such things agree

Boyz II Men, Boyz II Men,
Boyz II Men, Boyz II Men

    Motownphilly's back again
Doin' a little east coast fling
    Boyz II Men going off
Not too hard, not too soft

    It's long overdue but now
    Philly is slammin'
    Boyz II Men, ABC, BBD
    The east coast family

    Never skipped a beat, na
    While cooling on South street
Jet black Benz, plenty of friends
And all the Philly steaks you could eat

Back in school we used to dream about this everyday
    Could it really happen?
    Or do dreams fade away?
    Then we started singing them
    They said it sounded smooth
So we started a group and here we are
    Kickin' it just for you

    Motownphilly's back again
Doin' a little east coast fling
    Boyz II Men going off
Not too hard, not too soft

The spotlight is on us now
    Watch us do this
Da da, daaa da da, da da da da da da

Live and direct from Philly town
Rap and hype and we can get down
    We are ready to roll
So now the world will know that we were

Back in school we used to dream about this everyday
    Could it really happen?
    Or do dreams fade away?
    Then we started singing them
    They said it sounded smooth
So we started a group and here we are

    Motownphilly
  • In the US, this was Boyz II Men's first single. It confused DJs for a few reasons: many didn't know how to pronounce the band name, and some thought the song was called Boyz II Men and the group was named Motownphilly, since the words "Boyz II Men" are in the lyrics and the chorus states, "Motownphilly back again."
  • The song tells of the group's dreams and how they were discovered - backstage at a New Edition concert where they met Michael Bivens, who was a former member of New Edition and was part of Bell Biv DeVoe, who were a very popular group at the time. Boyz II Men sang him an a cappella version of their song "Can You Stand the Rain," and Bivens, who was an aspiring record producer, got them signed to Motown Records. Bivens shows up on this song doing a rap interlude about the experience.
  • The lyrics talk about the "East Coast Family." "ABC" is the group Another Bad Creation and "BBD" is Bell Biv Devoe. ABC and BBD weren't around a few years later, but Boyz II Men were wildly successful.
  • The title implies that Boyz II Men were bringing the Motown sound to Philadelphia. Motown is a legendary record label from Detroit featuring black artists.
  • Boyz II Men became known for slow, harmonizing ballads, but this is a fast song that is not typical of their sound.
  • This was produced by the Philadelphia-born, Atlanta-based producer Dallas Austin, who co-wrote the track with Michael Bivens and Boyz II Men's Nathan Morris and Shawn Stockman. Austin also worked with Bell Biv DeVoe and would go on to write and produce for TLC.
  • The music video has the guys dancing and performing around Philadelphia sites, like a Temple University dorm room and in front of Geno's Steaks. Questlove, of the Philadelphia hip-hop group The Roots, makes a cameo appearance.

  • The song features a vocal contribution from Neil Fallon . The Clutch frontman said: "I am stoked to have been asked by Max to participate on the 'Ayatollah Of Rock 'N' Rolla' track! Max brought Clutch out on some of our earliest and most formative tours and this brought back some very fond memories of singing with Max all those years ago."
  • Max Cavalera told Ghost Cult magazine: "A song like 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla,' it was something totally new. I never did anything like that before. It starts with like this Country, cowboy riff, and Neil starts talking over it and it was so killer! And of course that line in the chorus 'Ayatollah of Rock 'N' Rolla' is from Mad Max. It's probably my favorite song on the album. I don't want to make the same record over and over."
  • In our interview with Max Cavalera , he explained why he wanted Neil Fallon on board for this song. Said Max: "I thought it was a great idea to do a song with Clutch, and mixing Soulfly and Clutch together in the same song for me sounded just so amazing and unusual and wild and exotic, which was great. We did it and it sounds killer."

    Perhaps Love Lyrics

Perhaps Love is like a resting place
    A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
    When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home

Perhaps love is like a window
    Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through

Oh, love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
    And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
    Or thunder when it rains
    If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

  • Denver wrote this and recorded it as a duet with Placido Domingo. It was not expected to be a commercial success; a radio station played it on the air as a way to preview the song because none of the office turntables were working at the time. The call-in response from listeners was overwhelming and convinced them to release it. It received considerable radio airplay.
  • Denver was so impressed by the way that Placido Domingo sang his lyrics that it changed the way Denver sang his own songs from then on.
  • John Denver, born Henry John Deutschendorf, was a member of the Chad Mitchell Trio from 1964 to 1969, becoming the group's lead singer. He left the group to go solo and record his first album, Rhymes And Reasons. In the 1970's Denver worked hard to help preserve what later became the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) in Alaska. Said Denver: "I experienced one of the most fulfilling days of my life when I stood with President Jimmy Carter, Secretary of Interior Cecil Andrus, and conservationist Margaret Murie as the President signed the Alaska Land Conservation Act into law." That Act was signed in 1980.
  • Denver sang this at his induction into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 1996.

God Gave Rock And Roll To You II Lyrics

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone
Do you know what you want? You don't know for sure
You don't feel right, you can't find a cure
And you're gettin' less than what you're lookin' for

You don't have money or a fancy car
And you're tired of wishin' on a falling star
You gotta put your faith in a loud guitar

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone (oh yeah)
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone

    Now listen
If you wanna be a singer, or play guitar
Man, you gotta sweat or you won't get far
Cause it's never too late to work nine-to-five

You can take a stand, or you can compromise
You can work real hard or just fantasize
But you don't start livin' 'till you realize
    I gotta tell ya
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
    Put it in the soul

God gave rock and roll to you (to everyone he gave the song to be sung)
Gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to everyone

God gave rock and roll to you (to everyone he gave the song to be sung)
Gave rock and roll to you, saved rock and roll for everyone
    Saved rock and roll

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you put it in the soul
I know life sometimes can get tough and I know life sometimes can be a drag
But people, we have been given a gift, we have been given a road
And that road's name is rock and roll
Gave rock and roll to everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone
God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to everyone

  • This is a reworking of a 1973 song by the band Argent titled "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You." Kiss' version adds lyrics dedicated to Eric Carr, who lost his battle with carcinoma in 1991.

The Argent song was written by their lead singer Russ Ballard, who got a songwriting credit on the Kiss song along with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons , and their producer Bob Ezrin.
  • This was the last Kiss song that Eric Carr appeared on. Carr was their drummer since 1982, and died of cancer in 1991 at age 42.

Carr also appeared in the video, which was shot while he was being treated for the disease. Bruce Kulick, who was the Kiss guitarist at the time, recalled in the book Tales From The Stage : "He played his heart out. He had more energy than I did. I couldn’t believe it, but it meant a lot to him. You can see in his face in the video and photos that it’s kind of drawn. You can tell that he wasn’t healthy and fighting a disease, but I must say that he was very brave."
  • In an interview with VH1, Gene Simmons said: "It's not just a cover song for a soundtrack, but a testament to Eric Carr, and I think a lot of people don't realize that."
  • Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley share lead vocals on this song, which they hadn't done since "Shout It Out Loud."

Still I know I'll see you there

Come a Little Closer, then you'll see
Come on, come on, come on
Things aren't always what they seem to be
Come on, come on, come on
Do you understand the things you been seein'
Come on, come on, come on
Do you understand the things that you've been dreaming
Come a little closer, then you'll see

Heartbreaks, the heavy world's upon your shoulders
Will we burn or we just smolder
Somehow I know I'll find you there
Ooh, I wanna see if you can change it, change it
Still I know I'll see you

Come a little closer, then you'll see
Come on, come on, come on
Things aren't always what they seem to be
Do you understand the things you been seein'
Come on, come on, come on
Do you understand the things that you've been dreaming
Come a little closer, then you'll see
Come a little closer, then you'll see

Ten thousand people stand alone now
And in the evening the sun sets
    Tomorrow it will rise
Time flies by, they all sang along
Time flies by, they all sang along
Time flies by, they all sang along
    Time flies, by, by

Come a little closer, then you'll see
Come on, come on, come on
Come a little closer, then you'll see
Come a little closer, then you'll see

    Come a Little Closer
  • This was released as the first single from Cage The Elephant's third album, Melophobia. Vocalist Matt Shultz told the story of the song to MusicRadar.com . "We were in the Buenos Aires airport, and I saw this amazing flamenco guitarist who was busking," he recalled. "He had this whole gypsy thing going on. The music he played was very hypnotic and powerful – you could hear the burdens of his heart. I got inspired and grabbed my guitar. I went to the next terminal – there weren't that many people in this one yet – and I started playing what in my head was Bulgarian folk."

"I wrote the verse at the airport, inspired by the thought of things appearing different at first and then seeing them in a new light," Shultz continued. "We went on to San Paulo, and I remember being in my hotel and looking out one morning at this makeshift city on a hill. There were tarps and scrap metal, all of these little boxes with people inside of them. It made me think of an ant hill, but then I also thought, 'No, wait, these are people living their lives.' It made me want to look closer. That became the chorus."

"Once I showed the parts to the band," Shultz concluded, "we went to a rehearsal studio, pieced everything together, and there was the song. But it all started in that airport in Buenos Aires. Funny how that works sometimes."
  • Guitarist Lincoln Parish told Loudwire how the song came together: "After we had written it, we liked it when we first wrote it. But then we went and demoed it in my studio and we kind of felt like polka," he explained. "The verse had a different feel and beat to it. Kind of a polka feel. Then we listened to it back and were like, I don't even think we ended up turning that version of the demo in to management, we weren't that happy with it. We just let it sit and then we were back in the studio with Jay (Joyce, producer), it wasn't even a song that we were trying to cut. Then he was like, well what other songs can we do? Towards the last little bit we were kind of, well what songs do we have left to cut? Or what songs do we want to cut and not cut. We decided and Jay was like, we should do this one. We're like yeah, but the verse, we didn't like the feel. He was like, figure it out. So, we just sat around and actually just dumbed it down and made it a little more simple than it was originally. The chorus is the same, but the verse changed as far as making it more straightforward and simple."

    Meet My Maker Lyrics

(This is the way I'll Meet My Maker tonight)

    So this is it
    This is my life
    This is my time
    It's ending tonight
    I made my mistakes
    I tried to live right
Stepped out of the darkness into the light
    And when I'm gone
    Will they remember
    Will they mourn
    Will they move on
When my sad songs the lonely son
His time has come his life is done

    And tonight
    We'll celebrate the end
    Of this life
    And we'll sing
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Whhooaa aaooohh
    It's alright
this is a night like we've began
    With open arms
    This is the way
The way I'll meet my maker tonight

    And on my grave
    What will it say?
Here lies another soul that was saved
    So please don't cry
    Just sleep at night
And I will wait on the other side

    And tonight
    we'll celebrate the end
    Of this life
    And we'll sing
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Whooaahh ooohhh
    It's alright
This is a night like we've began

    Cigarette Daydreams Lyrics

Did you stand there all alone?
Oh I cannot explain what's going down
I can see you standing next to me
In and out somewhere else right now
    You sigh, look away
I can see it clear as day
    Close your eyes, so afraid
    Hide behind that baby face

Do do do do do do

    You can drive all night
Looking for answers in the pouring rain
You wanna find peace of mind
    Looking for the answer

Funny how it seems like yesterday
As I recall you were looking out of place
Gathered up your things and slipped away
No time at all I followed you into the hall
    Cigarette daydream
    You were only seventeen
Soft speak with a mean streak
Nearly brought me to my knees

Do do do do do do

    You can drive all night
Looking for the answers in the pouring rain
You wanna find peace of mind
    Looking for the answer

If we could find a reason, a reason to change
    Looking for the answer
If you could find a reason, a reason to stay
    Standing in the pouring rain

Do do do do do do

    You can drive all night

    Cigarette Daydreams
  • Out of all the songs on Melophobia, this happened the fastest. Vocalist Matt Shultz recalled to Artist Direct : "I was sitting there on the floor of my living room. I was strumming a guitar, and I started coming up with that melody. Then, the words started to flow out. If the right experiences are happening in your life, it doesn't hurt. It definitely helps. I called our producer, and I was like, 'I don't know. What do you think?' He just said, 'Matt, finish the song right now! Just do it.' I hung up the phone and tried to let it flow through. A lot of things happen in life grow in experiences. They can cause heartache, jubilee, or whatever. To be able to directly put those in a song is a pretty amazing thing."
  • Rhythm guitarist Brad Shultz recalled his reaction to MusicRadar.com after his brother played the song to him on his phone. "He was talking about maybe using it for something other than Cage, but I was an instant fan of the song," he said. "This was a moment of realization like, 'Why do we have to write Cage The Elephant songs? We can just write songs, regardless of what style of music they might be.'"

"I like the idea of doing things that people might not expect from us," Shultz added. "So we decided to take a whole new approach to writing, and this song is a good example of that. It's just about being honest."

    They didn't warn me
    When I was running wild
    The dragons breathing fire
    In the backyard at night

    We live in circles
And it's so hard to breathe
    Maybe the same old fears
    What have we here?
    Don't bring me down
    With you

    Now I'm just chasing time
With a thousand dreams I'm holding heavy
And as we cross the line these fading beats have all been severed
Don't tell me our Youth is running out
    It's only just begun

If I asked you for good news
Would you smile and turn away?
    It's like a bad dream
That is too afraid to wake

    There are many among us
And we're changing all the time
    Maybe the same old fears
    What have we here?
    Don't bring me down

    Youth
  • Louisa Rose Allen is an English singer and songwriter who records under the name of Foxes. This was one of the first tunes that she penned and was originally released by independent label Neon Gold Records in 2011. "Don't tell me our youth is running out, it's only just begun" she sings over resplendent synths and industrial percussion. Foxes said: "It was the first song where I thought, 'OK, now I can see the vision, now I can see the album'."
  • The song only started getting airplay after Foxes guested on hit singles for Zedd and Rudimental, which gave her the necessary exposure.
  • This was used to soundtrack a TV commercial promoting the Unrivalled Collection of Designers at Debenhams department stores. Foxes can also be seen briefly in the ad.
  • Foxes told Digital Spy regarding the song's accompanying music video: "'Youth' is about having these jobs... being stuck in a job or a life where you're not living your dream. The video talks about that visually."

"There's the fire coming up and then we go into this magical world," she added, "where we're like, 'F--k it, let's do what we want!'"
  • Foxes penned the song with help from producer Jonny 'Ghostwriter' Harris who also co-wrote Rudimental's chart-topper "Waiting All Night." The lyrics were inspired by the singer's young-at-heart, single-parent mum.
  • Foxes told Radio.com that she wrote the song to let others know that just because you're getting older doesn't mean you have to give up your childhood dreams. "I definitely think I was brought up to have this idea that you can do what you love and you can kind of stay a big kid and have that imagination," she said. "You can do what you love."

    Luv Is A Verb Lyrics

    [Take this... for a ride]

Down with the dc Talk, d- d- down with the dc Talk
Are you down with the dc Talk, d- d- down with the dc Talk

Pullin' out my big black book
Cause when I need a word defined that's where I look
So I move to the L's quick, fast, in a hurry
Threw on my specs, thought my vision was blurry
I looked again but to my dismay
It was black and white with no room for grey
Ya see, a big "V" stood beyond my word
And yo that's when it hit me, that Luv Is A Verb

    (chorus 1)
Words come easy but don't mean much
When the words they're sayin' we can't put trust in
We're talkin' 'bout love in a different light
And if we all learn to love it would be just right

    (chorus 2)
Hey, tell me haven't ya heard?
    Luv, is a serious word
Hey, I think it's time ya learned
I don't care what they say
I don't care care what ya heard
The word luv, luv is a verb

Down with the dc Talk, d- d- down with the dc Talk
Are you down with the dc Talk, d- d- down with the dc Talk

Thinkin' of a way to explain-o
Cause ya' know when I'm flowin' like a bottle of Drain-o
    Simple and plain, L-O-V-E
Ain't all that junk that ya see on TV
Put soaps on a rope cause they ain't worth copin' with
It's a myth that there ain't no hope and
Luv is enough if it's unconditionally
Givin' now you're living out the Great Commission

    (repeat choruses 1 and 2)

Back in the day there was a man
Who stepped out of Heaven and he walked the land
He delivered to the people an eternal choice
With a heart full of luv and the truth in His voice
Gave up His life so that we may live
How much more luv could the Son of God give?
Here is the example that we oughtta be matchin'
Cause luv is a word that requires some action

    (repeat chorus 1)

    Luv Is A Verb
  • This song explains in very simple and obvious terms how love requires actions rather than just words. The first few verses are just trying to get the words together to explain it, but then in the final verses Jesus is used as the role model and example for love, typified by the words: "How much more love can the Son God give." Jesus displayed the ultimate love by dying on the cross, and we should show Jesus' love to others by actions.

Oh no, did I get too close oh?
Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?
    All your insecurities
    All the dirty laundry
Never made me blink one time

    Unconditional, Unconditionally
    I will love you unconditionally
    There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
    I will love you unconditionally

Come just as you are to me
    Don't need apologies
Know that you are all worthy
I'll take your bad days with your good
Walk through this storm I would
I'd do it all because I love you, I love you

    Unconditional, unconditionally
    I will love you unconditionally
    There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
    I will love you unconditionally

So open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart, and just let it begin
Open up your heart, and just let it begin
    Open up your heart
Acceptance is the key to be
    To be truly free
Will you do the same for me?

    Unconditionally
  • This big power ballad was released as the second single from Prism, and was the follow-up to "Roar."

"It's a love song and it's different from 'Roar' - it's not eighth-notey," said Perry. "I think it's a universal love song that everyone's going to be able to relate to no matter the age, no matter male or female. It's my favorite song off the record."
  • Perry penned this ode to falling in love with Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, American producer Dr. Luke and Canadian songwriter Cirkut. The same trio also contributed to "Roar." During a discussion at the 2013 ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo in Los Angeles, Perry said as a team they have certain strengths. "With Max, it's melody choices," she said "Luke is production and I'm topline and melody."
  • The song finds Perry singing about looking past her beau's flaws and loving him for who he is. "There is no fear now... I will love you unconditionally," she belts over woodblock percussion and a dramatic bass line. It is one of two tracks on Prism that were inspired by Perry's boyfriend John Mayer— the other one being the Deluxe edition bonus track "It Takes Two."
  • The song's lyric video was helmed by photographer, screenwriter and director Aya Tanimura, who is a member of Mensa. It features a lesbian couple who are played by models Janell Shirtcliff and Erika Linder.
  • Perry spoke about the song's meaning during an interview with KIIS FM. She explained: "Not only is it about those different varieties of loves, it's about when you are in love with someone and there's full acceptance. The highs and the lows. All the flaws. The zits. The smells. The whole gamet, you know? Sometimes I remember being scared to be accepted in relationships and I know that everybody else goes through that and, 'Will they love my true self? Will they love all the things that I do when nobody's looking?"

Perry added: "You know because we are weirdoes. We pick our nose and we make disgusting noises with our body and we're not always the most presentable things but someone's gotta love us and it's about that unconditional love. It's about that high, almost spiritual type of love."
  • Perry felt inspired to pen the song as a result of a visit to Madagascar with UNICEF. She decided to write lyrics about what it means to care for someone in the purest form. "We live in such a world that is run by social status and material possession, and it can get really overwhelming and tiring to keep up with that - people are actually turned on by the amount of likes they have; it's crazy that our minds think that way these days," Perry explained.

"And so I went to the top of this mountain, I saw all these children, and the love that they had towards each other, they had no idea what Twitter or Facebook or any of that stuff was, they didn't care about it," she continued. "It was this unconditional love between all of them. It was that kind of pure love that's unaffected by the trends of the world."
  • Perry singled out this as her favorite Prism track as it passed the "goose bump test." She explained to MTV News: "There's this test that I do in the studio, after a song's complete and you've tracked some vocals. It's kind of like the goose bump test. If, every time you hear it, it gives you goose bumps, it's hitting a chord inside of you that's really important,. It's an emotional chord inside of you."

"I love this song because not only can it be a romantic, intimate song, but it can be about the type of love that a mother has when she sees her first child, or best friends or partners," Perry added. "It's a transcendent love, it's not just relationship status."
  • The Brent Bonacorso directed video is centered around an elegant Renaissance-era ball. The clip explores the impact of love using dramatic imagery and was influenced by such films as Dangerous Liaisons and Anna Karenina. "It doesn't have a complete narrative. I do that all the time; I usually have quite a big story line," Perry told MTV News. "This time I wanted to give a lot of gorgeous, beautiful looks, which I don't usually go for. But it's mostly just a beautiful video that is supposed to evoke this power of love."
  • Bonacorso explained to MTV News how he attempted to capture the song's lyrical concepts in the video. "When she sings this song she doesn't sing it lightly. This love that she speaks of is like a force of nature, epic storm and a tempest, and that's definitely something I wanted to capture," he said, adding that he wanted to capture a "more mysterious, elegant and sophisticated world to live in... less about a time period and more about creating an impression and a feeling."

That "feeling" is expressed using various images, including a car crash, which is a visual metaphor for the power of true love. "One of the key images that I think was pivotal in the video and just a very important concept to me. I once described the experience of falling in love like being hit by a car; suddenly your world is just so violently and dramatically changed. It hits you out of the blue," Bonacorso explained. "I shared this with Katy and she really loved that concept and really identified with it immediately, that she felt the same way."

    Hard Candy Lyrics

    On certain Sundays in November
    When the weather bothers me
I empty drawers of other summers
Where my shadows used to be
And she is standing by the water
As her smile begins to curl
In this or any other summer
    She is something altogether different
    Never just an ordinary girl

And in the evenings on Long Island
When the colors start to fade
She wears a silly yellow hat
That someone gave her when she stayed
I didn't think that she returned it
We left New York in a whirl
    Time expands and then contracts
When you are spinning in the grip of someone
Who is not an ordinary girl

And when you sleep you find your mother in the night
But she stays just out of sight
So there isn't any sweetness in the dreaming
And when you wake the morning covers you with light
And it makes you feel alright
But it's just the same Hard Candy you're
    remembering again

You send your lover off to China
And you wait for her to call
You put your girl up on a pedestal
Then you wait for her to fall
I put my summers back in a letter
And I hide it from the world
All the regrets you can't forget
Are somehow pressed upon a picture
In the face of such an ordinary girl

And when you sleep you find your mother in the night
But she fades just out of sight
So there isn't any sweetness in the dreaming
    And when you wake
The morning showers you with light
And it makes you feel alright
But it's just the same hard candy you're

  • When the mother is talked about, it is could refer to how there is a bit of his mother (which "Stays just out of sight") in this girl, and when you see your mother's love displayed in this girl it makes everything all right again.

    Compass Lyrics

Yea it's been a bumpy road
    Roller coasters high and low
Fill the tank and drive the car
    Pedal fast, pedal hard
You won't have to go that far

You want to give up cause it's dark
We're really not that far apart

So let your heart sweetheart be your Compass when you're lost
And you should follow it wherever it may go
When it's all said and done you can walk instead of run
'Cause no matter what you'll never be alone
    Never be alone
    Never be alone

    Forgot directions on your way
Don't close your eyes don't be afraid
We might be crazy late at night
I can't wait til you arrive
    Follow stars you'll be alright

You want to give up cause it's dark
We're really not that far apart

So let your heart sweetheart be your compass when you're lost
And you should follow it wherever it may go
When it's all said and done you can walk instead of run
'Cause no matter what you'll never be alone
    Never be alone
    Never be alone

You want to give up cause it's dark
We're really not that far apart

So let your heart sweetheart be your compass when you're lost
And you should follow it wherever it may go
When it's all said and done you can walk instead of run
'Cause no matter what you'll never be alone
    Never be alone
    Never be alone

When it's all said and done you can walk instead of run
'Cause no matter what you'll never be alone

    Compass
  • This song was written by members of the Norwegian Pop/Rock production team Stargate, who have been responsible for a string of hit singles by such artists as Rihanna ("Diamonds") and Katy Perry ("Firework"). The blending of a high-spirited sing-a-long banjo-and fiddle-heavy sound with pop-style production represented a new musical direction for Lady Antebellum. "You hear people talk about songs they knew they couldn't live without, and this is one of them for us," said Dave Haywood. "Once we all got in the studio to record our parts and really work with the instrumentation, it took on an energy that felt really fresh and different. We tried some new things vocally, and by adding foot stomps and hand claps to the acoustic sounds of the banjo, fiddle and mandolin, it really turned into something special."
  • Lady Antebellum took a short break after the release of Golden because of Hillary Scott giving birth to a daughter, Eisele. This was the first song released by the trio after their hiatus. "As we made it our own, we decided we had to share it with the fans immediately…we just couldn't wait!" said Scott. "They've been so patient with us over the last few months as I've begun a new chapter in my life personally. Everything takes on new meaning once you have a child, and now I can hear the message of the song through Eisele's ears too. It opens up a whole new world to you as an artist."

The song was included on the deluxe edition of Golden.
  • Scott told Billboard magazine it was a quick process to record the track. "It all happened very fast. We got the song, and within two weeks we were in the studio with it," she said. "We lived with it for a little while, fell in love with it, and threw some ideas around with what we were going to do with it."
  • Hilary Scott explained what the song means to her. "I think what struck me so much with this song is the lyrics," she said. "It's really a positive message. It made me think of my daughter. It's so fresh me being a mother now and having her and wanting her – as she grows up – to dream big and to go after those dreams but to always know she'll never be alone. She's got a soft place to fall at home. So that's who I think of, you know?"

"It's also an empowering song," Scott continued. "It's following your heart. Your heart is your compass, and if you' re following it, you're always going to be happy because you' re gonna be doing what you' re meant to do. So, I love that too. It can be a about a person, a friend, a parent, child, whoever, spouse, but it can also be about you and the power within yourself."
  • The music video for "Compass" was helmed by Peter Zavadil, a veteran Country music video director who also was behind Lady Antebellum's two previous clips for "Goodbye Town" and "Downtown."
  • Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley commented that the band can truly relate to the track. "I think the song hits really close to myself, and I know Dave [Haywood], both moved from kinda the normal job circuit and took a chance and kind of followed our hearts and moved to Nashville," he said. "It was the best decision we ever made."

"Our families, though, were there and very encouraging; you know that line, 'You'll never be alone.' And also, 'Walk, instead of run.' It's kind of like, 'Settle into it.' You don't have to chase after it, and I think some people try so hard," Kelley added. "It's like, just let yourself settle in to what you know is what you do best in this world and believe in yourself and let it all happen."

    Mrs. Potter's Lullaby Lyrics

Well I woke up in mid-afternoon cause that's when it all hurts the most
I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host
If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts
You can never escape, you can only move south down the coast

Well, I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame
I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame
If you've never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame
And though I'll never forget your face,
sometimes I can't remember my name

    Hey Mrs. Potter don't cry
Hey Mrs. Potter I know why but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing
And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings
And there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring
And the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything

Or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said
And the ghosts of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside of your head
And the ferris wheel junkies will spin them forever instead
When I see you a blanket of stars covers me in bed

    Hey Mrs. Potter don't go
Hey Mrs. Potter I don't know but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep
And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep
All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep
Hey I can bleed as well as anyone, but I need someone to help me sleep

So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams
It's just a brief interruption of the swirling dust sparkle jet stream
Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem
But I'd sure like to find out
So why don't you climb down off that movie screen

    Hey Mrs. Potter don't turn
Hey Mrs. Potter I burn for you
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

When the last king of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor
    and orders another
Well, I wonder what he did that for
That's when I know that I have to get out cause I have been there before
So I gave up my seat at the bar and I head for the door

We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars
We stand up at the Palace like it's the last of the great Pioneertown bars
We shout out these songs against the clang of electric guitars
You can see a million miles tonight
But you can't get very far

Hey Mrs. Potter I won't touch and
Hey Mrs. Potter it's not much but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

    Mrs. Potter's Lullaby
  • This song deals with memories and hope (both the false ones and all the far-searching dreams). Mrs. Potter is a movie star who Adam Duritz is looking up at, admiring, and wanting her to be a part of his life. This song has a very dreamy feel about it all the way through, as does the video clip. Duritz says he wrote the song after going to a movie and wondering what it would be like to fall in love with a girl on the screen.

Duritz had some particular insights here, as he has dated a litany of actresses, including Mary Louise Parker, Jennifer Aniston, Samantha Mathis and Emmy Rossum.
  • Adam Duritz has taken care not to reveal the identity of Mrs. Potter, and if it really is the actress Monica Potter from the movies Con Air, Patch Adams and Saw. He says that after he wrote the song, he had dinner with a couple who brought an actress friend along. She and Duritz hit it off, and he invited her to the recording session, where he announced her as "Mrs. Potter." She went out of town for a few days, during which time Duritz wrote a few songs inspired by their quick separation and long phone calls: "Colorblind," "Four Days" and "Kid Things."

When she returned, they started dating. Their producer Dennis Herring had given her a tape from the sessions, which she played for Duritz when he told her that they were having trouble mixing the song. One take on the tape sounded really good, so Adam played that one for the band and used it on the recording. They realized that they had overcomplicated the song, so they stripped it down, working from that one take.
  • This song runs 7:46, but Adam Duritz tells us that it took him only about 8 hours to write. "It's a longer song, but it's one sitting," he said. "I would always sit in that feeling for a while."
