This is one of two new tracks (the other is "Weak") recorded by Seether for their greatest hits double album, Seether: 2002-2013. The song was produced by legendary studio master Brendan O'Brien in Los Angeles earlier in 2013. Bassist Dale Stewart told Loudwire : "That was actually one of the first new songs that we did when we decided on doing the greatest hits and decided that we wanted to give the fans a little something extra. We decided to rope in Brendan O'Brien and get back into the studio with a couple of new songs and that was one of the first ideas that Shaun [Morgan] brought into the studio and it was just kind of everything we thought that it needed to be. It was kind of heavy but still had that sort of melodic thing about it. I don't know, it just worked."

"It was one of those songs that didn't require that much effort.," added Stewart. "If you have to think about it or work on a song too much then it often not a good sign. If the basis of the song is there and it is good and it works and it is just the case of polishing it up and making it as good as it can be then it is relatively an easy process. Those are often my favorite songs and I think some of the best songs."

This rousing pop ballad finds Beyoncé reuniting with previous collaborators Ryan Tedder and The-Dream. Tedder spoke to Australian radio station Nova about the collaboration. "Personally the song we did I like more than 'Halo'. I think it's a bigger, better song," Tedder said. He added: "[The-Dream] did 'Single Ladies', I did 'Halo' so we thought - what would happen if we just did a song together?"

Beyoncé performed the song for the first time during the Chicago stop of her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour on December 13, 2013. She told the crowd: "I'm gonna sing this song, which is a brand new song. It hasn't even been out for 24 hours. I want to sing this to you all because it was written for you all. This is the first time. Something I'll never forget."

The video finds Beyoncé and the girls running loose in an amusement park. It was filmed by fashion photographer Terry Richardson, who also directed Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" clip, on the famed Cyclone roller coaster in Coney Island, New York. Beyoncé's three pals are played by models Jourdan Dunn, Diandra Forrest and Jessica White. Jourdan Dunn's cookery show airs on Jay-Z's Life + Times channel.

This was released as the lead single along with "Drunk In Love" from Beyoncé on December 17, 2013. After getting the Bey Hive buzzing with talk of a record release in 2013, by December the singer's fans were resigned to having to wait until the following year for a new offering from their idol. Then early on December 13th the "visual album" was dropped onto iTunes without any promotion or prior warning. Speaking to Billboard magazine about the time lag before the record was made available to the public, Pharrell Williams, who co-produced the track "Blow" said. "She's very particular. She's not going to put it out until it's ready. When you know what you want, you won't stop until you get it."

Beyoncé was the top-selling album all over the world within hours of its release, eventually taking the #1 spot in 104 countries. In smashed the US's previous iTunes one week record of 465,000 downloads of Taylor Swift's Red LP within three days. The 617,000 downloads sold between December 13-15, easily surpassed the 465,000 copies of the Nashville Pop Princess' fourth album in its debut week.

Tedder only learnt of Beyoncé's availability an hour and a half before its release. "I knew 90 minutes before it dropped. Ninety minutes. And I said nothing because I love Beyoncé and I don't want her to hate me," he said.

"I heard a rumor and then I didn't say anything. I told my wife, `I think Beyonce's album is dropping in 90 minutes and then I knew that `XO' was on the album," Tedder added. "I knew it was a single. I didn't know if it was first or second. I didn't know anything, and then today I found out that it was the lead."

Beyoncé debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, following the chart-topping Dangerously In Love, B'Day, I Am... Sasha Fierce and 4. This meant that Beyoncé became the first woman to top the chart with her first five studio albums. The only two other acts to have taken their first five studio sets to peak position were folk group the Kingston Trio and rapper DMX.

The song starts off with a six-second audio clip of former NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt recorded moments after the space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986. "Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation," he states. "Obviously a major malfunction." Former NASA astronauts and families labeled Beyoncé's choice of sample as "insensitive."

Beyoncé responded to the outcry over the audio by expressing her sympathies for the families of those who died in the Challenger disaster and indicating no offense was intended. "My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster," she said "The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you. The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."

Despite being released on December 14th, Beyoncé sold 1.3 million by the end of the year in the United States making it 2013's best-selling album by a woman. The next-highest ranked leading lady was Katy Perry, with Prism, which sold 969,000 copies. Beyoncé was the eighth best-selling album of the year overall.

Beyoncé performed her first televised rendition of this tune during the BRIT awards in London on February 19, 2014. She dedicated the song to her fans as she sang the chorus, "Baby love me lights out." It was the Texan's first performance at the ceremony since 2004 when she sung "Crazy In Love."

John Mayer covered the song in April 2014 during one of his shows in Adelaide, Australia. An acoustic studio version of his folk-rock interpretation was made available for digital download on May 27, 2014 and entered the Hot 100 the following week at #90.

A singer named Ahmad Javon Lane filed a lawsuit over this song in November 2014 seeking $3 million in damages. The artist who records under the name of Javon alleged he originally wrote a track, titled "XOXO," which he shared with one of Beyonce's background vocalists. The star, according to him, consequently ripped it off for this song.

Beyoncé's attorney brushed the lawsuit off, stating: "The two works at issue are entirely different songs that share no lyrical or musical similarity, other than perhaps the letters 'X' and 'O'…there is no meaningful similarity in pitch series, rhythm or rhythmic patterns, melodic development or structure."

Cool Kids

Echosmith is a South Californian indie-pop band comprising siblings: vocalist Sydney, guitarist Jamie, bassist Noah, and drummer Graham Sierota. The group was originally formed in February 2009 and their father booked the quartet's first gig, enlisting his kids to play a benefit concert for a friend's daughters.

Echosmith signed to Warner Bros. Records in May 2012 and this dreamy tune is a track from their debut album, Talking Dreams, which was released on October 8, 2013.

The song tells the story of a boy and girl who just want to be noticed. "This cry to be like the cool kids… it's something that everyone kind of goes through whether you want to act like it or not," Jamie explained to Radio.com . "There's always somebody out there that you kind of wish, 'If only I could do this, or do that.' I think that's why it connects with people so well."

Echosmith performed the song on December 31, 2013 during the Teen Nick Top 10: New Year's Eve Countdown, hosted by Nick Cannon.

Sydney Sierota explained the song's meaning to The Sun. "It's about the desire to fit in," she said. "But the message is to accept yourself and that's all it takes to be cool. We see people of all ages coming to our shows, so it's really cool to see that everyone is able to connect on that level and to be able to embrace who they are."

According to the group, listeners often mishear the title as "cookies."

Strife

This was released as the first single from Trivium's Vengeance Falls album. The song was performed live for the first time on August 1, 2013 at the Resurrection Fest at Viveiro in Spain.

Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto discussed the song in a track by track breakdown on his website : "'Strife' grew on me big time throughout the recording. It went from being a song I was unsure of to a definite first single (which was a close one between 'Vengeance Falls' and this one)."

He continued: "The intro is fu--ing massive and will give anyone that likes guitar tone a boner guaranteed. The verse vocals have Matt starting off in a lower register, gradually climbing into a more pissed off menacing voice with some screams layered in."

The song's music video was filmed in July 2013 at Studio One in Orlando, Florida and directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with Darkest Hour, Incubus and All That Remains.

The second single by British songstress Jessie J off her sophomore studio album was penned by the singer with Ester Dean. The American singer-songwriter's resume includes US #1 hits for Rihanna ("Rude Boy," "What's My Name?") and Katy Perry ("Firework"). The song received its first radio play on Capital FM on August 5, 2013 and was released on September 15, 2013.

Jessie told Capital FM about the song's music video. "It's basically me having parties," she said. "Three very different parties that I kind of bring together as one big party. There's some cameos in there, some of my best mates in there. It's a fun video where it's just me being silly. A lot of humor."

The song shares its title with Lesley Gore's 1963 hit song about a birthday party. Gore's event turned out not to be the happy occasion she thought it would be when her boyfriend Johnny left with a girl named Judy.

Speaking on the syndicated radio show, InDemand with Alex James, Jesse revealed that is was her detractors who inspired the song. "A lot of the time the haters - I hate calling them haters but that's the easiest way to sum it up - they need love more so than anyone else," she said. "I don't think hate does anything for the world. It doesn't do any good. I wanted to make sure I had a song that represented what I'm about."

Drop That #NaeNae Song Chart

We Are Toonz is an Atlanta hip-hop quartet and dance crew who formed in 2013. The group comprises Tavin "Levi" Bing-Gardner, Christopher "Crash Bandit" Major, Kavin "K.B." Bing-Gardner and Calvin Larmar "Callamar" Glass. Levi and K.B. are brothers and Crash Bandit is their cousin.

This is We are Toonz's debut single, which was released without fanfare in 2013. The song went viral thanks to its accompanying dance, the Nae Nae, which is based on Martin Lawrence's Sheneneh Jenkins character from his 1990s sitcom Martin.

As the song gained momentum various college football teams posted videos of them dropping the #NaeNae on YouTube. However, We Are Toonz was unimpressed when Miley Cyrus did an interpretation of the dance while promoting her Bangerz tour. In a video made by the collective they wagged their fingers at Cyrus, calling out her version of their dance, and showing the singer how to do it the right way.

The first single from Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Wanderlust album was released as a free gift for fans in April 2013, before being officially released on November 21, 2013. The song is a life-affirming testament to true love, accompanied by singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt's piano.

Wanderlust was recorded in a London studio over a fortnight with a group of musicians and friends.
"The album is about roaming and your sense of where you come from, and how you take home with you but you also have this desire to get out there and see the world," said Ellis-Bextor. "I found making this album really empowering. I felt like after ten years of making records, this is like the biggest present to myself."

The album was co-written, produced and arranged by Ed Harcourt. "He's a family friend," Ellis-Bextor told The Sunday Telegraph. "I've known him for quite a while. And quite early on, we were going for this Eastern sound, quite theatrical, even folky in places. No suggestion, from Bulgarian choirs on up, was too bonkers to be considered."

This power ballad was released as the lead single and title track from Céline Dion's eleventh English-language studio album. The song was premiered live by Dion at her Une seule fois show in Las Vegas on July 27, 2013.

The song was written by Australian singer-songwriter Sia Furler, whose credits include Rihanna's "Diamonds," David Guetta's "Titanium" and Flo Rida's "Wild Ones." It was Celine Dion's first single release since "My Love" in 2008. "I've been gone for six years," she told Billboard magazine. "There's a time where you think, 'Do you think people will write songs for me?'"

"I'm at the mercy of the songs because I don't write my material," Dion added. But I could not believe what I was hearing. I'm not trying to reinvent myself, I don't want people to think, 'This is a brand new Celine,' but I am at a place in my career where I'm 45, I'm at the peak of my life, and I've never felt like this before. I want to have a good time."

Dion performed this song for the first time on September 6, 2013 on the TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live. When Dion sat down for her interview, Kimmel engaged her in a discussion about whether it really was possible to love someone back to life, with Kimmel insisting it was impossible. Dion insisted that you could, explaining that someone in a coma could conceivably be loved back to life with prayers.

Dion was clearly excited about this recording. The Canadian singer is seen falling off a couch in a recording studio as she listens to the song after laying down her vocals. "When I hear something that comes from me that makes me fall down off my chair, it's not often," said Dion. "When the young generation offers me a song - Sia - that writes for Rihanna, that my (teenage) kid thought it was a mistake that she sent me that song. 'That's not true! That's not possible! Sia wrote you a song? I mean c'mon really?' It's such a powerful, powerful song and its edgy."

Alien Days

This dreamy, five-minute-long trip into psychedelia was premiered by MGMT on March 30, 2013 at the Festival Estereo Picnica show in Bogotá, Colombia. It was initially released on April 20, 2013 as a limited-edition cassette single for the Record Store Day campaign before being presented to the world as a free stream in promotion of their third eponymous album. Vocalist Andrew VanWyngarden told NME: "It incorporates some of the feelings that we experienced with the first two albums."

The child vocals were provided by Trevor, the son of Cool Little Music Shop's owner at Fredonia, New York where MGMT purchase some of their instruments.

This largely instrumental banger was released as the first single from The Pet Shop Boys' twelfth album, Electric. It was debuted on March 22, 2013 at the Cumbre Tajín festival in Veracruz, Mexico and released digitally on May 1, 2013.

An extremely negative review of the Pet Shop Boys previous album, Elysium, had an incalculable effect on Electric. "They said they wanted more banging and more strobes," Chris Lowe told Q magazine. So we thought, 'Well, that's what you're going to get, then.'"

The Pet Shop duo employed Stuart Price, best known for his work with Madonna and The Killers, to produce Electric. "It was a quick, instinctive record to make," Price said. "But I think that's because a record normally sounds like the time you have making it and we had a lot of fun doing it."

The song was inspired by an Italian Disco night in Berlin that the Pet Shop duo attended. Chris Lowe told Electronic Beats magazine that the pair, "got back and felt inspired by the music we'd been listening to—nothing specific, but just the feeling of it all."

Tennant added "I think it was this track that might have made us decide to do a separate dance album — 'cause this was never going to go on Elysium. There was no option of that at all."

This song was inspired by Madonna. Neil Tennant laughed to The Sun: "Axis had a rubbish vocal at first. Then I pretended to be Madonna on 'Erotica' and said it in an American accent. Now when I hear the voice at the start of the show, I don't think of it as me but my alter-ego, 'The Electric voice'."

This was titled various times "Electric" and "Turn it On", before the Pet Shop Boys settled on "Axis."

Producer Stuart Price told Electronic Beats magazine: "The demo always had the direction and the atmosphere. I sort of always thought it had this sort of futuristic, sort of mystical 'City in the Skies' feel to it, and that's what I loved about it. It was sort of like where Techno met Disco… and that's always what it felt like, so when we were working on it in the studio I think it was just putting it into a place where it could be played in a DJ set now."

"The BCS-3 is that box you always see Eno with in a Roxy Music video, or on a Bowie record," he continued. "And there's not really anyone alive that can play it, but anyone can sort of stand there and just push it and it will do something. So all this, it's just the sound of those boxes—plus disco bells, equals 'Axis.'"

Solana Rowe is an American singer-songwriter from Maplewood, New Jersey who is better known as SZA. She first met members of Top Dawg Entertainment, the record label housing rappers Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and their Black Hippy crew, during the CMJ 2011. A friend attending the show with her persuaded TDE president Terrence "Punch" Henderson to listen to some of her material, which he liked. In July 2013 it was announced that SZA was the first R&B act on the TDE roster.

SZA recorded much of her debut Z album in Carson, California during the summer of 2013, where she shared accommodation with labelmate Rashad. This was released as one of the intro tracks to Ministry's From Beer To Eternity album. The record was recorded at frontman Al Jourgensen 's 13th Planet compound in El Paso, Texas with guitarists Mike Scaccia and Sin Quirin, drummer Aaron Rossi and bassist Tony Campos. Three days after rough tracks for the songs were completed, Scaccia died from a heart attack he suffered onstage while playing a live show with his band Rigor Mattis.

The remaining Ministry members were absolutely devastated and Jourgensen announced in March 2013 that From Beer To Eternity would be the band's last ever album, as he didn't want to carry on without Scaccia. "Mikey was my best friend in the world and there's no Ministry without him", he told Noisey . "But I know the music we recorded together during the last weeks of his life had to be released to honor him. So after his funeral, I locked myself in my studio and turned the songs we had recorded into the best and last Ministry record anyone will ever hear. I can't do it without Mikey and I don't want to. So yes, this will be Ministry's last album."

Jourgensen recalled the recording of the album to Loudwire : "Me and Mikey, we would just jam around between country songs and we kept coming up with these riffs and Mikey kept going, 'Man we've got to put this out,'" remembered the frontman. "I kept telling him Ministry is done, but he's like, 'No, seriously dude. These riffs are cool; we have to put this out.' I kind of went into it begrudgingly and now I'm really quite happy with the result. I think this album came out like a great middle finger from me and Mikey as the final blow. So, I'm pretty happy with it."

The song's music video was shot in July 2013 at Jourgensen's Texan compound and directed by filmmaker/animator Zach Passero whose credits include Ministry's "Lieslieslies," "GhoulDiggers" and "99 Percenters," as well as the feature film Wicked Lake. The clip combines provocative news images taken from World War Two, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, with a bad acid trip. Jourgensen portrays three different personalities, representing three different points of view on America's persistence of war: the corrupt political leader, the predatory business man, and the passive observer.

The Muskogee, Oklahoma Country sibling act Zach and Colton Swon grew up right down the street from Carrie Underwood, and the three shared a stage many times together throughout their childhood years. Traveling with their parents' southern Gospel group Exodus, the boys were singing and writing songs practically as soon as they could walk. In 1995, the Swon Brothers' parents formed a family-style variety show called Westwood Music Show, in which the pair first started performing in the country music genre. Five years later when they were 12 and 15, the siblings started calling themselves The Swon Brothers, and appeared in various venues.

Auditioning in 2007 for American Idol after witnessing Carrie Underwood's massive success on the talent competition, Colton made it all the way to the Top 48. Zach never tried out because he didn't feel comfortable without an instrument in his arms.

The Swons spent the subsequent years performing around their home state and releasing a couple of independent albums that were well-received among their ever-growing fan base. The sibling pair achieved national fame in 2013, when they finished in third place on the fourth season of The Voice.

The duo signed a record deal with Arista on November 1, 2013 and released this romantic-night-in story as their first official single, the following month. The song shot to #1 on iTunes' Country Top Songs within 24 hours.

The song officially impacted Country radio on March 3, 2014. It received 81 combined Country Aircheck and Billboard adds in its first seven days on radio, the most one-week adds of any debut single in Country Aircheck history.

This tribute to life on the road was released as the lead single from Gavin DeGraw's fifth studio album. Co-written by the singer and Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson (who also produced the track), the song moves to the rhythm of a brisk stomping beat. "I'm sitting in the room with Martin Johnson, the guy I'd been writing with before who's really gifted, and he's like, 'Hey man, what do you think of this track?'" DeGraw recalled to Billboard magazine. "He just starts playing this jangle-y, uptempo kind of thing, which ultimately was the foundation for 'Best I Ever Had.'" The song was released to radio and digital retailers on June 18, 2013.

The song's official music video finds McGraw getting close to the 2013 Miss USA titleholder, Erin Brady.

The song started as a crazy drum beat in the studio over which Johnson encouraged DeGraw to adopt a stream of consciousness approach for his vocals. He began to sing "Melt Antarctica, savin' Africa. I failed algebra" and Johnson added, "And I miss you sometimes." "I laughed because it was so off the wall, but at the same time that was the stroke that it needed," DeGraw told Radio.com . "The nature of the song, it almost didn't matter what we said. We had the freedom to say anything because the style and sound of the song, there's a bit of a beatnik Americana thing happening in there even though it's been modernized. It lets you be a little bit nutty as far as being a lyricist is concerned. It is very freeing."

Home Again

Lyricist Bernie Taupin grew up in the village of Owmby-by-Spital in Lincolnshire, England. He moved to America in the '70s, eventually settling in a ranch in the hill country above Santa Barbara in California. Taupin denied that this song's sentiments represent a wish to move back home. He told The Daily Telegraph, laughing: "My brother Tony listened to the song and sent me an email saying 'Please tell me you weren't thinking of Owmby-by-Spital when you wrote it.' I said, no Tony, it's a state of mind. Owmby is the last place I'd want to go back to."

The song's music video shows a series of increasingly younger actors playing a single character as he journeys home. Elton is nowhere to be found in the clip. Other visuals in which Elton has declined to appear include the one for "I Want Love" that featured Robert Downey Jr. lip-synching the song and the promo for "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore," which starred Justin Timberlake.

When Elton John performed this song at the 2013 Emmy Awards on September 22, 2013, he introduced it by saying that it reminded him of the singer Liberace, who was the subject of an HBO movie called Behind the Candelabra, nominated for 15 awards (the stars of the movie, Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, introduced Elton on the show).

Said Elton: "Bernie and I have written a new song called 'Home Again' that reminds me of him. Because Lee, as he liked to be called, when I met him, he always talked about how much he loved going home to his house. So it's a feeling of being at peace and being yourself. Liberace left us 25 years ago, and what a difference those years have made to people like me."

Liberace was certainly an influence on Elton, but it was clear that the occasion was a convenient excuse for him to perform the song on the show. It became clear that Elton was reading his intro from a teleprompter when he recited a line he obviously didn't write: "What I wasn't aware of until years later was his lifestyle." As this point, Elton looked up and said, "yeah, right" before returning to the script. As he turned away from the prompter and toward his piano to perform the song, he said, "this is a song about going home."
