Seven Nights Seven Days Lyrics

Oh my darlin' I'll go down and commute
Until one hundred souls
There's a fire on the moon
I'll be over the line, I'll be under the spell
I'll be the comeback king
On his way home from hell

Seven nights, seven days
Seven wishes that will bury this place
Another reason not to get out of bed

Show me the way brother,
Give me a sign sister
I'm not the only one who's waiting to be born
I see the day comin',
I see the time runnin' out
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn

Oh my darlin' all my sympathy's gone
And my sunsets are strange
My time's gettin' on
They'll rip me to shreds like it's never been seen
'Cause I never convinced them that I meant what I mean

Seven nights, seven days
Seven wishes that will bury this place
Another reason not to get out of bed

Show me the way brother,
Give me a sign sister
I'm not the only one who's waiting to be born
I see the day comin',
I see the time runnin' out
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn

Seven nights, seven days
Seven wishes that will bury this place
Another reason not to get out of bed
Another reason not to, another reason not to,
Another reason not to, another reason not to,
Another reason not to get out of bed

Show me the way brother,
Give me a sign sister
I'm not the only one who's waiting to be born
I see the day comin',
I see the time runnin' out
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn
I see all of my dreams ragged and torn

Seven Nights Seven Days
  • This was the first single from The Fratellis third album, which came five years after their previous effort, Here We Stand. Tensions in the band caused their split in 2009, but in 2013 the Glasgow trio got back together for a few gigs, which led to the We Need Medicine album.
  • Lead singer Jon Fratelli describes this song as "sort of autobiographical." It's an upbeat track with downbeat lyrics of broken dreams and finding the strength to face the day.

In our 2013 interview , Jon stated: "The character in that song sounds like he's in a desperate place and needs some hope from somewhere. I guess we've all felt like that at times."
  • The video follows a bedraggled clown who torments his audience. He is beaten and scorned, but redeemed when he finds a female clown who becomes his partner. Jon Fratelli told us about the clip:

"It's really just trying to convey the idea of someone who finds themselves in the wrong time, trying desperately to perform for people who don't understand him. Clowns being 'old fashioned' as a form of entertainment seemed to tell that story well."

    Poetic Tragedy Lyrics

The cup is not half empty as pessimists say
As far as he's sees nothings left in the cup
A whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
Since the voice of ambition has long since been shut up

A singer, a writer, he's not dreaming now of going nowhere
He gave heed to nothing, and all that he was
    Is just a tragedy

    So he voyages in circles
    Succeeds getting nowhere
    And submits to the substance
    That first got him there

Than in violent, frustration he cries out to God or just no one
Is there a point to this madness and all that he was
    Is just a tragedy

    He feels alone
    His heart in his hand
    He's alone
    He feels alone
    I feel

Then on that last day he breaks
    And he stood tall
And he yelled, and he takes his life

    Poetic Tragedy
  • This song tells the story of a struggling musician who feels that there is no place for him in the world. Feeling he is a lost cause, he takes his own life (as stated in the final verse of the song). Many artists - painters, writers and often musicians - are not appreciated during their lifetimes, but their work becomes popular after they die. When we spoke with Jeph Howard from The Used, he said, "I think that song was originally was about another musician or songwriter. It was a mix between a thought of a person spending his whole life writing art and then dying before he really felt fulfilled." (here's our full Jeph Howard interview .)

  • The Fratellis are a Glasgow 3-piece that have embraced traditional Rock music. This song from their album pays homage to the early years of Rock. "I can't pretend not to be obsessed with just the simplicity of all of that," says their frontman Jon Fratelli . "It just continually hits me - any time I play an old record, whether it's something from Sun or something similar it seems like it would have been nice to have been around in such simple times. And 'Halloween Blues' is just a nod to that."

    All For You Sophia
  • This song is a humorous reference to the band name: Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serbian rebel group "The Black Hand" shot the archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, in Serajevo in 1914 ("bang bang, Gavril Princip, bang bang, shoot me Gravillo"). This incident is considered to be the trigger of the first world war ("Bang bang, Europe's going to weep").

  • This is one of three new tracks included on Devotion: Vital Special Edition, a deluxe version of the band's 2012 Vital album. Frontman Stephen Christian told Billboard magazine that the tune didn't form in the same way as most other Anberlin cuts. "This song is as close to Jack Kerouac Anberlin will ever come," the singer said. "I just pushed play on the demo and just sang whatever came to mind. I sent it to the rest of the guys under the guise that I was 'sold on the melody lines but the lyrics were just free form' (hence the first line of the song 'I can't help but say what's on my mind'). [Guitarist] Christian [McAlhaney] and the guys emailed me immediately and said not to touch them... guess I should have been making stuff up our whole career."

  • Don Henley and Glenn Frey wrote this with Bob Seger and J.D. Souther. When Frey was a 19-year-old in Detroit, Seger took him under his wing and got his music career started. Souther, who is sometimes considered an "Unofficial Eagle," was the first person Frey met when he moved to Los Angeles in the late-'60s. When we spoke with J.D. Souther, he told us how this song started: "Glenn Frey and I had been listening to Sam Cooke records at my house. So we were just walking around clapping our hands and snapping fingers and singing the verses to those songs. The melody sounds very much like those Sam Cooke shuffles. There's not much to it. I mean, it's really just two long verses. But it felt really good." (Here's the full J.D. Souther interview .)
  • Bob Seger's contribution to this song was the chorus. Souther told us what happened: "We didn't get to a chorus that we liked within the first few days, and I think Glenn was on the phone with Seger, and he said, 'I wanna run something by you,' and sang it to him, and Seger just came right in with the chorus, just sang it and it was so good. Glen called me and said, 'Is four writers okay on this?' And I said, 'Sure, if it's good.' And he said, 'Yeah, it's great. Seger just sang this to me,' and he sang it to me and I said, 'That's fantastic.'"
  • The Long Run was the Eagles' last studio album until they re-formed in 1994. There was a lot of tension in the band, and a lot of pressure to make the album perfect. As a result, they spent 3 1/2 years working on the album, which was the follow-up to Hotel California. Frey later explained to Rolling Stone that he learned from the experience: "All one need do was listen to early Stones records to realize that all this striving for perfection is totally unnecessary."
  • This won a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance By A Duo Or Group.
  • Artists to cover this song include Conway Twitty, Tom Jones (as "A Heartache Tonight"), John Anderson, and Michael Bublé, who did a big band version of the song in 2009.

And I wrote this song that sounded like System of a Down, but it was called 'Chicken Taquito.' No joke. I called it that. And literally, the words were just like, how much I love eating chicken taquitos. In a round about way. There was singing about mushrooms and green peppers and stuff too."

  • This is one of the most well known songs by The Shins, most likely because it was featured on the soundtrack to the 2004 movie Garden State, staring Zach Braff (Scrubs) and Natalie Portman (Star Wars Episodes I,II & III). The song "Caring Is Creepy" from the same album is also featured on the Garden State soundtrack.

    A room full of sadness
    A broken heart
    And only me to blame
    For every single part
    No Science or Religion
    Could make this whole
To be loved, but never loved
    To have, but never hold
It’s a life alone, and a desperate need
To be held to be loved so
This is gonna take a bit of getting used to,
But I know what’s right for you

Fly high and Let Me Go
That sky will save your soul
When you pass by then you’ll know
That this gonna take a bit of getting used to
But I know what’s right for you
    Let me go

    A head full of madness
    And no where safe
    When tears aren’t big enough,
    And love turns into hate
It’s a life alone, and a desperate need
To be held to be loved so
This gonna take a bit of getting used to
But I know what’s right for you

Fly high and let me go
That sky will save your soul
When you pass by then you’ll know
That this gonna take a bit of getting used to
But I know what’s right for you

So let me go life will get better
Find the love I never gave ya
I know you lie there waiting all night long,
    So find where you belong

Fly high and let me go (Let me go)
That sky will save your soul (Let it save your soul tonight)
Fly high and let me go (Let me go let me go)

    Let Me Go
  • In the documentary When Corden Met Barlow, Gary Barlow explained that this song is about his daughter Poppy, who was stillborn in 2012. "It keeps a life and a flame in the whole thing," he said. "It should be a celebration that song, because in some respects, it's alive that record and those lyrics and what it relates to."
  • The first single from Since I Saw You Last - Barlow's first full length solo album in 14 years - this acoustic guitar driven track was influenced by Johnny Cash. "I've always liked folky, acoustic music but I've never fully explored it. I turned back time and was listening to Johnny Cash and early Elton John before I wrote 'Let Me Go,'" Barlow told The Sun. "I'm 42, I don't want to do urban or dance music."
  • The video was directed by "Sing" collaborator Ben Winston in New York and sees Barlow wheeling a piano around the streets of the Big Apple.
  • The song featured in a Compare the Market commercial. It found Barlow performing the song alongside CGI meerkats on Coronation Street's famous cobbles. The ad was commissioned to mark the first anniversary of the company sponsoring the ITV soap.

    Buried A Lie Lyrics

Rest in peace girl, your death is such a shame
The paper said a bullet got in your way
But I smell foulplay, possible poisoning
I had to bring her in for questioning
I went to your grave, dug up your body
Brought it to my house, where you lay

    So lets play doctor babe
    We'll operate today
    Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
    For me

I headed downtown, to share what I had found
    It's not a suicide, it's a crime
    I have a witness, it's clearly evident
There had to be someone else present
At the time of death, poisons in stomach
How could she pull it, if she's dead?

    So lets play doctor babe
    We'll operate today
    Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
    We need a scalpel now
    Under white lights you lay
    We've got to hurry up
    Before the flesh decays
    Away, away

    I'll catch the murderer
    And send him away
    I'll get the evidence
    From your last day

    Your last day

    So lets play doctor babe
    We'll operate today
    Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
    We need a scalpel now
    Under white lights you lay
    We've got to hurry up

    Better than you once knew

    Better than you once knew

'Cause cheating's just the thing you do

    Cheating
  • This was released as the second single from John Newman's debut album, Tribute. The record was written at a tough time. Newman told The Sun: "It is a breakup album. I broke up with someone I loved and the music started coming. I didn't talk about things a lot with my friends or with her, the person I went through a hard time with. I put it in the music and that's the only way I talk about it."
  • Newman's debut solo single, "Love Me Again," found him playing the role of the heartbreaker, but on this song it is his heart that is the one that's broken.
  • Newman penned the song with Emily Phillips, who is signed to Sony/ATV as a songwriter. The British songsmith co-wrote four tracks on Rizzle Kicks debut album Stereo Typical including their single "Traveller's Chant." She also co-wrote "Worldwide" with Big Time Rush for the American boy band's B.T.R. record.
  • When he was growing up, other boys would deliberately make a play for girls that Newman was interested in to upset him. as a consequence he found himself getting paranoid that girlfriends were seeing other guys behind his back: The singer told The Observer that this song is about, "a girl in Leeds who I still don't know if she did cheat on me."

Steal my heart and hold my tongue

And the wheels just keep on turning
    The drummer begins to drum

For you, I've waited all these years

For you I'd wait 'Til Kingdom Come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me

In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing

  • Chris Martin told Rolling Stone July 14, 2005 that both "A Message" and this song came from his religious upbringing. Said Martin: "'A Message' is taken from a hymn we used to sing called 'My Song Is Love Unknown,' and we'd say 'kingdom come' every week in the Lord's Prayer. One of the great things about being forced to go to church services is that we'd sing all these big songs. That's partly why I'm obsessed with getting everyone to sing along at our shows. Dancing With The Devil
  • Electronic dance music group Krewella teamed up with their fellow Chicago native, Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump, to pen this song. "Working with Patrick was so cool because he really opened the door to new styles of writing for us," said vocalist Jahan Yousaf to Radio.com . "It inspired us to resurrect an older song, 'Dancing with the Devil,' that we never knew how to finish. [Stump] really helped and guided us in that direction, to turn it into the very pop-punk, metal-inspired song that's on the album."

The Play Hard track also features blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.
  • Asked about the collaboration by HMV.com , Krewella said: "Being in the studio with Patrick Stump for 'Dancing with the Devil' was such a therapy session! We spent about 45 minutes letting everything off our chest, jotting down notes of phrases and one-liners, and Patrick had a magical way of helping us piece all the ideas together."

They added: "Our Travis Barker relationship was through the email by exchanging stems back and forth- hopefully we'll get to meet him in person someday!"

    #GETITRIGHT Lyrics

I feel a surge coming over me
I feel it all around my thighs
And chills going up my legs
This is the worst coming out of me
When I can't tell, felt like I could die yeah
And it sends chills up my spine

    Your're sexy sexy
I got things I want to do to you
    Make me make me
Make my tongue just go do-do-do
    Flex it, flex it
Flex your muscles, and through the roof
    Arrest it rest it
    'Cause you're a criminal

I been laying in this bed all night long
Don't you think it's time to get it on
But we gotta get it right, we can't get it wrong
Don't you want to feel this fire before it's gone yeah yeah

I feel the thirst pouring out of me
For things that I wanna try
    That echoes in my head
This is the first time I get to see
Things I've never seen in my life yeah
You make flowers grow under my bed yay

    Your're sexy sexy
I got things I want to do to you
    Make me make me
Make my tongue just go do-do-do
    Flex it, flex it
Flex your muscles, and through the roof
    Arrest it rest it
    'Cause you're a criminal

I been laying in this bed (this bed) all night long (all night long)
Don't you think it's time to get it on yeah
But we gotta get it right (get it right) we can't get it wrong (can't get it wrong)
Don't you want to feel this fire before it's gone yeah yeah

    Do you feel me?
    Oh
    I thought so
    I just oh
    Sometimes you just wanna

    Uh be naughty

I feel so alone when you were gone
Feeling right back home when I'm in your arms
You played my strings like my guitar
When I look in your eyes I see all the stars

    Would you believe
I'm dancing in the mirror (dancing in the mirror)
I feel like I got no panties on (eww)
I wish that I could feel ya (wish I could feel ya)
So hurry, hang up that damn phone

I been laying in this bed (this bed) all night long (all night long)
Don't you think it's time to get it on
But we gotta get it right, we can't get it wrong
Don't you want to feel this fire before it's gone yeah yeah

On and on, and make it last forever
    What you want all day
Just as long as it's you and I together
Babe don't make me wait yeah

    Don't make me wait yeah
    Don't make me wait

    No

    #GETITRIGHT
  • Pharrell Williams' jaunty production on this fulsome down-and-dirty track features whistling and a chopped guitar lick. It was after hearing Cyrus cover Dolly Parton's "Jolene" for one of her Backyard Sessions videos that the Neptunes producer decided that he wanted to work with the former Disney star. "He didn't come in and try to fix me," Cyrus said in the MTV documentary Miley: The Movement. "He knew I had a vision and that it was going to happen for me because I was clear, but I didn't know necessarily what my sound was going to be."
  • Cyrus was blistering in her dismissal of her earlier tween Pop career during the promotion for Bangerz. This lewd embrace of sex is one of several tracks on the album where she completely distances herself from her Hannah Montana past.
  • American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens penned Cyrus an open letter in which he critiqued the singer's grammar in this song. He wrote: "Dear Miley. I can't stop listening to #GetItRight (great song, great message, great body), but maybe you need a quick grammar lesson. One particular line causes concern: 'I been laying in this bed all night long.' Miley, technically speaking, you've been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there's an object, i.e. 'I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long'. Whatever."

"I'm not the best lyricist," he continued, "but you know what I mean. #Get It Right The Next Time. But don't worry, even Faulkner messed it up. We all make mistakes, and surely this isn't your worst misdemeanor."

"But also, Miley," Stevens added, "did you know the tense here is also totally wrong. Surely you've heard of Present Perfect Continuous Tense (I HAVE BEEN LYING in this bed all night long [hopefully getting some beauty sleep?]). It's a weird, equivocal, almost purgatorial tense, not quite present, not quite past, not quite here, not quite there. Somewhere in between. I feel that way all the time. It kind of sucks. But I have a feeling your 'present perfect continuous' involves a lot more excitement than mine."

    This Is Gospel Lyrics

This Is Gospel for the fallen ones
    Locked away in permanent slumber
    Assembling their philosophies
    From pieces of broken memories

Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart

The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds
But they haven’t seen the best of us yet

If you love me let me go
If you love me let me go
‘Cause these words are knives that often leave scars
    The fear of falling apart
And truth be told, I never was yours
The fear, the fear of falling apart

Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart

This is gospel for the vagabonds,
    Ne’er-do-wells, insufferable bastards
    Confessing their apostasies
    Led away by imperfect impostors

Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart

Don’t try to sleep through the end of the world
    Bury me alive
'Cause I won’t give up without a fight

If you love me let me go
If you love me let me go
‘Cause these words are knives that often leave scars
    The fear of falling apart
And truth be told, I never was yours
The fear, the fear of falling apart

Oh, the fear of falling apart
Oh, the fear, the fear of falling apart

Oh (This is the beat of my heart)
    The fear of falling apart

Oh (This is the beat of my heart)
    The fear of falling apart

Oh (This is the beat of my heart)
    The fear of falling apart

    This Is Gospel
  • Having written this song about some of his personal experiences, Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie was nervous about showing it to anybody. It lived for months on his laptop before he found the courage to share it with his bandmates.
  • The song contains some of Urie's favorite lyrics on Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!. He told American Songwriter magazine: "I like 'assembling philosophies from pieces of broken memories,' which I though was kind of a cool idea, where you only remember so much of your past, and then you build up who you are from those memories that you've created for yourself — but how true are they from what really happened and I just thought it was an interesting idea."
  • Brendon Urie said during a Reddit Q&A that "If you love me, let me go" from this song is his favorite line from Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! He added: "I started to cry when I was demoing the vocals. That was an incredibly honest moment for me."
  • The song was inspired by Urie's close friend and Panic! drummer Spencer Smith, who had been struggling with addiction. The singer told Billboard magazine: "I was really on edge and anxious about where the future of the band was going, the future of our friendship in general. With him and his health I was really scared of what was going to happen. When I wrote that song I was mad - mad at myself and mad at him. Like, 'Why can't I do something to fix this? What is wrong with me? What's wrong with you?'"
  • This started off as a melody Brendon Urie and his wife sang to their dog. Urie explained to Billboard magazine: "Before I had anything written to it yet, it was about little pet names for my dog. And I was like, 'I actually like this melody, it's been stuck in my head for a week, so I might as well try to make it a real idea.'"

    Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics

Her green plastic watering can for
    her fake Chinese rubber plant
    In the fake plastic earth

What she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber bands
    to get rid of itself

It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out

She lives with a broken man
    A cracked polystyreneman
    Who just crumbles and burns

    He used to do surgery
    For girls in the eighties
    But gravity always wins

And it wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him

She Looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
    My fake plastic love

But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

And it wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out

If i could be who you wanted
If i could be who you wanted all the time, all the time

    Fake Plastic Trees
  • According to Thom Yorke, this is a song about an area in east London called Canary Wharf, which was built on unused wasteland by the docks of the Thames. The area was supposed to be a major business district, but it was hurt by a market downturn in the '90s. Canary Wharf was landscaped with a lot of artificial plants, which is where the title came from.
  • In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Yorke said that this was the song where he found his lyrical voice. He cut the vocal, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, in one take, then the band filled in its parts around him. Yorke said the song began as "A very nice melody which I had no idea what to do with, then you wake up and find your head singing some words to it."
  • This was featured in the 1995 film Clueless.
  • The band were finding it difficult to nail this song and decided to take a break and catch a Jeff Buckley gig at Highbury. When they returned to the studio mesmerized by Buckley's set, Yorke sang the song twice before breaking down into tears.
  • According to Q magazine April 2008, Jonny Greenwood played on this an old Hammond organ, whose tone controls required resetting after every bar.
